Tho fiH action of the Guatamala mountain is of special in jl terest just now while the building of an isthmain B canal is being considered by Congress. Of course BH upheavals of tho earth's crust are not confined to fl any region. All around us arc evidences enough fll that nature is liable to light her fires anywhere, but the region which includes Central America and the jB West Indies seems particularly susceptible to dis- 1 turbances, and a canal on the earthquake belt might jH meet with troubles not in tho catalogue of engineers. B Could the people be removed and that isthmas be jB rent asunder by an earthquake, it would be a great H thing for the world's commerce, and it may be that H Guatamala's mountain has already gone into the H canal-building business.
