Then there is the Holmes dinner-danco on the 2Gth, and tho officers' German New Year's eve. with much do- 1 ing .New Year's day, and withall we can worry 1 through the holidays. I t 1 J'The largest event of tho week was the luncheon I given at tho Knutsford on Monday by Mrs. Perry 9 1:1 S. Heath, to thirty-six of her friends. The luncheon H I I; was served in the green ordinary, and in the ad- H jj I joining room, an orchestra played during the af- H if ternoon. H m 1 The luncheon was pink and green and the elabo- II 1 I rare unique effects in these pretty tints were the 111 1 subject of much comment. HI I I Tho green and white dinner gLven Monday Hi J; I J evening at the Commercial club by Mr. Samuel Hi! !, I Newhouse was one of the cleverest dinners of the Hi. ij I season. Tho decorations were in white carnations Hi; ;.S: I and smilax, and covers were laid for sixteen. A Hi ll I unique feature of the affair was the dinner card Hlj J I with the menu, and personal reference to each Hi; ; I guest under the different courses. Hlj ft I The prettiest event of the week was the HI jf j! luncheon given on Thursday by Mrs. Charles HI ; Walker in honor of Mrs. George Raymond Walker, B l j I which took place in the ladies dining-room at the I' t Commercial club. The room was a bower of beau- I I ty in red and green, holly being used in profusion. $3 I The room was darkened and lighted by red shaded m I lights and red candles were distributed along the ; I 1 table, which was decorated in holly with glisten- I p 1 ing cotton snowballs, here and there. ! j 1 Tiny French statuettes stood prettily in front of Ij I each guest, and later accompanied them home as if I souvenirs. Twenty-eight guests were present. if! I Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Walker have issued invi- jE tations for dinner on the 22nd, and a dancing party S, on the 27th. t, I Col. and Mrs. Holmes have issued invitations E for a dinner dance to be given the evening of the j 2Gth, and over a hundred guests have been invited. Ij The dinner will be at 7 o'clock .followed byjdanc- H ing, and the affair promises to be the most elabo- kj i ! rate of the holiday season. I i Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bancroft entertained at ; dinner on Tuesday evening. The Christmas col- I' ' ors of green and red made the table beautiful, and covers were laid for eight. Those present were i Gov. and Mrs. Wells, Col. and Mrs. Clayton, the S Misses Nason, Mr. Burleigh, Mr. Schumacher and K Chester Nason. y ! Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Caine entertained on h Wednesday evening in honor of Capt. and Mrs. Guy Palmer, at a most delightful card party. Sixty-three was the game, and about sixty guests were present. The decorations of holly and ivy, with red satin ribbons were exquisite, and the whole affair was charming. j Judge and Mrs. O. W. Powers entertained at an elegant dinner Tuesday evening, in honqr of Mr. and Mrs. Baker of Everett, Wash. Covers were laid for ten. Another decided social success was the musicalq at the Commercial club on Wednesday evening. Miss Emily Read is at home at 474 East South Temple street. Mrs. Fred Simon entertained the Whist club Tuesday evening. One of the pleasantest events of the week was the luncheon given by Mrs. H. W. Doscher on Tuesday. The decorations were suggestive of the holidays in their effects of red and green, and the place cards were finished in sprays of holly. Covers Cov-ers were laid for sixteen. Messrs. Mark McChrystal, Ernest Sadler and Wesley Evans have issued invitations to a dancing danc-ing party at the Ladies' Literary club New Year's night. It promises to be one of the swellest holiday holi-day affairs for the younger set. Mrs. H. V. Croll entertained at cards on Wednesday. Miss Evelyn Thomas has gone to Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Channing gave a delightful supper Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Sharp are here for the holidays. They are with Mr. and Mrs. Harkness. Mrs. Jacob Bamberger has gone East. Miss Edyth Ellerbeck entertained at cards on Tuesday. Mrs. Glosz entertained at luncheon on Wednesday. Wednes-day. Judge Miner and daughter, Mrs. McClure have returned from San Francisco. Col. and Mrs. Holmes gave a delightful dinner Tuesday evening. American Beauties were the decorations. |
