Show "FAGAN." The other day at the Keogh-Wrlght hospital in this city an old man, Thomas Mitchell, died of miner's consumption. He was one of the last of a , stormy old band. In the old days he was called "Fagan," and was one always relied upon when courage and recklessness were needed. Through the great war he served in the One Hundred and Sixth New York regiment. The war ended, he j came west. He went to the Comstock, then to Wood river and of late years has resided in Stockton, in this state. In Virginia he was a j member of Hose Company No. 1, then he became I Fhaft tender at the old Chollar shaft. He was one J of Jack O'Brien's supporters in the attempt to jump the Scorpion mine; he was a guard at the Nevada penitentiary when the depperate mqn ' there attempted a mutiny. He promptly shot off ' Hie hand of the ring leader and quelled the riot, and generally when an iron-nerve and quick hand were needed "Fagan" was looked for. For ' some years he has lived a quiet life and we hope he has sunk into a quiet sleep. |
