Show I huori i4;et better9. B ! -r -! Ill I. 9 June 19th, 1902. I I The smallest volume of business done on the B Salt Lake Stock Exchange since the old days when B the institution was growing on Commercial street, B was transacted on Wednesday of this week. One B year ago this month was the commencement of the B , gieatest volume of business ever transacted in the B summer months since the exchange was organized. B Thousands of shares changed hands, the cost of B which totaled from one hundred thousand to two B hundred and fifty thousand dollars daily. Evcry- B body was making money and the future for the min- B ing stock market in Salt Lake was never brighter B The Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange seats B sold close to the $1,000 mark and the institution B was looked upon as the greatest help to this intcr- B mountan country. What a change and why; inflated B -values of stocks sold by promoters who knew they B were selling far beyond their value, and then a con- B ccntrated effort to bear the market. One instance, B when a combination was formed to invest $150,000 B capital to borrow and sell short paying from 5 to 10 B points to loaner of stock for use of same. How could B the purchasers of stocks on margins ever hope to over- B come such pressure. This was probably the cause of B the great depression in many of our most active B storks. With careful inquiry and gooc1. judgment B now is the time to purchase mining stocks, the' H nmiket will likely be quiet during the hot season' H but when stocks are inactive and low as at present1 H is the time to get in. Ajax at 30 cents per share is H selling for less than cost of machinery on the prop- Bj cii. H California has been in bad repute and we advise H keeping hands off until trouble is settled. i H Carisa, a stock selling eight months ago at $1.75, H now at 25 cents with good reports from the prop- H erty is a buy. H Con. Mercur is one of the safest and best dividend H payers in our market. A well founded report is H that the crowd in control were offered $3.00 per share H for their stock by a big English syndicate and also H that New York parties arc negotiating now for H the property. The books of the company are now H closed and will remain so until after the annual H meeting to be held in Jersey City, N. J., July 7. H Daly took an upward shoot last week on report of H a strike. Daly West was somewhat slumpy the H last day or two on account df rumor that the antici- H pated increase in dividend in July would not be made. m Joe Bowers shaft is now nearing the six hundred H foot level and when they begin drifting for the H vein you may look for a quick advance in this stock. H Lower Mammoth made a new find on the 1,100 m foot level, silver and lead ore, a good indication and m proves that it may soon sell around prices of last H w inter again. m May Day is hanging around 20 cents and unless j new developments are soon shown will likely sell for H loss money. There is plenty of room for daylight to B show between this price and the bottom. H Sunshine with all the good reports from the prop- jH orty does not seem to advance at all. H Uncle Sam is still receding and reports are that an JH assessment is likely to be levied. M Yankee Con. is also in a rut as all the rest of the M market and unless new life is enthused and now H tactics pursued there will be no hope for better j prices on that stock. H Victor is quoted at between 20 to 25 cents and is said to be a buy. H Dexter is low and a buy at present figures. JB There has been very little activity throughout the hst of local stocks, and advances in the prices of M most of them are not looked for for a couple of Bi months. We will be pleased to answer all questions about Utah mines and stocks at any time. Very truly yours, Hudson s sons co. |
