Show i , if ' j?y Soctetjr E,)entf of the OeeK i I I , Never, since this city began to boast of a I Smart Set, has there been such a dazzling fete 1 f as that arranged Thursday night by those charm- I i ing hostesses, Mrs. and Miss Salisbury in honor I I of Miss Edna Donnelan. The scene on the spa ll t clous lawns was a fairy picture with the myriad h ' lights and beautiful women. H I The grounds were entirely enclosed, and above M 8 i .the, enclosure long festoons of carnival lights were B if I jhung, completely surrounding the house. From the B K I ' ,,roof of the mansion long lines of light radiated p fto the trees and partitions, and a dazzling star in B . I i the National colors blazed over the entrance to the B j! iiouse. The inside of the house was also decorated 1 1 1 in a gorgeous manner, with mantels and tables, B ;fl loaded with ferns and sweet peas and carnations. B jI Ovet two hundred invitations had been issued 1H and from appearances, all werp accepted. r The night was clear, and beautiful with a glor-iious glor-iious moon, and the music was enchanting. ? The affair will probably stand distinct and ' I "alone, as the smartest event of this or any other ! I 'summer, f fc kP kP X W - t I The wedding of Miss Marguerite Richards and ( Captain Oliver Edwards of the United States army took place in New York on Monday, June 22. The marriage of Miss Margaret Thompson I and Lieutenant John Randolph of the United ,w States army took place in "Washington on Wednes day, June 24. J The above announcements should be placed together. The girls grew up together at Fort I Douglas, during the time the Sixteenth was sta- ' , tioned there, they were constant companions up i I , to the time the troops were ordered away and j " how singular that both should be married the i same week many years later. There was a time when the Town Tabbies and a lot of other people thought that the two popular girls would leave the army for good, but it seems not. Captain and Mrs. Edwards will spend the sum-' sum-' mer at Plattsburg, and Lieutenant and Mrs. Ran dolph will be at home at Columbus barracks. , 5 S t5 ? Mr. D. H. Peery has gone to Denver. The I Christian -Endeavor convention meets there this week. js Jt Jt i)t ! "How we do miss Mr. ," said one of the I i nurses at St. Mark's, the other evening. "I can't remember when we've wanted to see a man have a relapse before. But oh, he was so charming until he got well, and he gave the lovliest pink teas in his room on the second floor. This nursing nurs-ing game would be a snap if they were all like him." (v j tv Pretty little Elizabeth Mclntyre is back from the far east, and better still, she has consented to stay all winter. Her famed repartee is better than ever, and you have to go some to keep up with her. My, my, ,what a bunch of hot ones she passed over to Archie at the Country club Wednesday Wed-nesday night. Ov v &Ti And speaking of the younger girls, who could help noticing that little bunch of beauties on visitors' night at the Country club. Helen Gillespie, Gilles-pie, Aileen McLean, Madge Mariner, and Bee Cheeseman. Such cunning reminders of the flight of time make the girls who are married, glad that they are, and make those who are not, wonder a little. There are about four cliques of youngsters ready to come out in another year that will make things hum, but the ratio of boys is about one to five. to" O t Mrs. Mary Abbott Seaboldt is now Mrs. Henry Gurley Hay of Cheyenne, Wyo. She did not marry mar-ry again quite so quickly as Bert, nor did she get so far east, but she has not lost much time in grabbing Hay while the sun shines. (W to t Mrs. Winnifred Shaughnessey wants ?975 because be-cause the Union Pacific soaked her gowns with Broker Nature and lost the ticket. The defendant will probably argue the popularity of watered silk in submitting a motion for dismissal. tv ex Visitors' day at the Country club saw the largest larg-est crowd of the season which spent the afternoon after-noon and evening at the pretty place enjoying the hospitality of the bachelor officers, assisted by Mrs. Sturgiss and Mrs. Cocheu. H Miss Kirkpatrick entertained about fifteen H friends at supper, after the dance at the Country H club on "Wednesday. This, however, was not so H exciting as the informal fire the same young lady H gave the evening of the Fourth. This was an en- H tirely original entertainment enjoyed by a select 2 few. The properties used were a sky rocket, a H neighbor's house, five brave lads, two fire depart H ments, etc. The party was very pleasant, but the flj fad will probably not be extensively imitated. S v5 & & A crossed wire did the business, and it is a H shame that a newspaper man held the receiver on the other one. H "I waited half an hour for you, and H "God bless you kid, I wouldn't have had you do that you " I "I'll never forgive you." I "I must see you before I go to the ranch. Can't I you come down town." B "No, there's an operation at 4:30, and I " 'But I must see you, kid, dear, I can't go away I without" "I must go, there's someone on the line good-B good-B bye, sweetheart." B All of which goes to show that St. Mark's will B be minus a nurse in the near future. H V & &r0 B The lawn fete given by the ladies of the Jew- B ish Relief society at the home of Mr. 21 ml B Mrs. Jacob Moritz on Wednesday evening was a fl brilliant success. Festoons of bunting and flags with electric lights and Japanese lanterns, arranged ar-ranged about the spacious grounds, made a beautiful beau-tiful effect. Dancing was the chief attraction, and refreshments were served throughout the evening. The ladies chiefly responsible for the success of the affair were Mrs. Ransahoff, Mrs. Most? Woolf, Mrs. Moritz, Mrs. Louis Simon, Mrs. Simon Si-mon Woolf, Mrs. Desky, Mrs. Samuels, Mrs. Herz and Mrs. Adolph Simon. & & & It would be an inducement for a lot of us to marry if we could be guaranteed such beautiful events in our honor as that given by Miss Salisbury. Salis-bury. Mr. William Montague Ferry and Mr. Edward S. Ferry announce the engagement of their sister Edith to Lieutenant Dana True Merrill of the 12th United States Infantry. This expected announcement concerning con-cerning the Lieutenant and the little sister of the Ferrys has been expected for some time, though the affair is really a sudden one. Miss Ferry will return to her home in Michigan next week, and the time for the wedding will be set later. Ned must now divide his honors for he will not be the only member of the family to wear the blue and brass. Mr. Newhouse gave a dinner for twelve at the Commercial club Wednesday evening. The affair was one of the smartest of the week's events. Mr. and Mrs. Warren C. Bogue entertained at B a children's party on Tuesday evening. B Mrs. Charles S. Burton entertained Monday B evening. B Mrs. John J. Daly will give a dancing party for M Miss Edna Donnellan. M Mrs. George M. Downey gives a luncheon on " Thursday for Mrs., Thomas B. Davis. 11 WHEREABOUTS.
