Show Gentile voters should remember in the coming school election that the Mormon chiefs have never yet made a concession; they have never kept faith when it has seemed to them advantageous to break it; they have never yielded to anything but force. Their rule from the first has been to outrage public pub-lic sentiment and private rights and then to claim that they are being persecuted because of their religion. re-ligion. Gentiles may count on the orders going out that Mormons shall vote for only Mormon candidates can-didates in the school election, and if Gentiles do not retaliate in kind they will show that they have lost their old sense of what constitutes an American's true duty in a hostile country. The News declares that it wants only the best men for the place nominated. That is but another way to say that it wants only Mormons nominated and it is intended for every Mormon to understand it that way. |
