Show H ( 1 ' ii J Society ScLtinteringtf. J H ' The composite chrysalis has busted at last, Hj ti and the butterflies who have suddenly emerged are B so fearfully busy that the dust-laden engagement Hj j books are due for a heavy inning, and the two H j weeks that circle about Christmas, wpi be surely m sleepless. H Mrs. Rob Walker will make things interesting B , for the Ermined herd a week from Sunday night. B i An informal supper will be the attraction, and will m be given in honor of Miss Read. B , Miss McGrath wHl invite more of Miss Read's Bj ' friends to meet her (he following evening, and B; on Wednesday the wedding of Miss Read and Mr. B; Hager will take place at the home of Governor and Bj Mrs. Wells. A small reception will follow the cere-Hi cere-Hi mony, to which only a few intimate friends will be B , invited. m t On the following evening Miss Katheryn Geddes Bj will entertain at a large dancing party at the B; Ladies' Lit, and from then until the New Year M there will be many things to occupy the social B, mind. K i w w & B The charming Kirkpatrlck elrls have planned Bj a lot of fun for their many friends during the B ' holidays, the principal event being the domino B dance for an exclusive one hundred to be given B by Miss Constance Kirkpatrlck. The whole parlor B floor of the Knut-ford will be brought into requisi- Bj , tion, and it is planned to start the affair about Hi ' ten o'clock, and have the carriages call at three. Bj & & & Bj These young lidies, assisted by Miss Kenyon, I I . r are also planning same very wonderful private if i theatricals, and if the plays are to follow prece-j prece-j I dent, that is if they are good when the rehearsals ' are poor, or bad when the rehearsals are good, B' they are detinsd to be glittering sucoossos. B Sidney Grundy s contributing the plays, and B I tne company self-styled "The Ranters" Is com- B posed of the Misses Kirkpatrlck, the Misses Miller, H' j Miss Jasmine Young, and Messrs. Pritchard, Poe, H Rob Young, Edwin Thorne, and Lieutenants Saun- B j dors and Beebe. K The whole company is now working at training K ' table, and the holiday treat they are preparing for Bi their unsuspecting friends will doubtless be a Bj t - great surprise. Hj! And now it is whispered that the young min- B ing man has been captured at last, and that the B wedding is to be announced in the near future. Big Cottonwood canyon is an ideal spot to spend a honeymoon in the good old summer time, and they say that the wedding Is to happen in ye mer-rie mer-rie month of June & & & What an absurd exouse the banquet committee commit-tee of the Conrmerc'al club gave for beginning the annual banquet at six thirty in the evening. The members want to catch their last car, do they? It is a twenty-to-one shot that that is just exactly what they do not want to do, and that more than one will be called to Untie before the night is over. On such important business in fact, that they will not have time to go home and change clothes. Jv v qfv There were a number of residents of Brigham street who were fearful early in the week lest the excavations about the Alta Club meant the placing plac-ing of water in that establishment, but their fears were relieved when it was noted that the pipes were extended further up the street. Th following im the San Franolsco Chroniole of last Sunday will be read with interest inter-est in this city: "Mrs. Thomas Kearns, a member of an old and wealthy family of Salt Lake and almost as well known here, socially, as there, entertained at her home there recently with a large afternoon reception at which, among others, several San Franciscans were irrosent. The appointments of the house, its decorations, etc., impressed these visitors with their elegance and quiet taste. "Mrs. Kearns is frequently on this coast and ! spends a good part of her time at the St. Francis in this city. She is an attractive, handsome woman wo-man and her family's connections with the old historical his-torical people of Utah is most Interesting. This suggests army masters and brings to mind her fondness for service life and her friendship with the occupants of Fort Douglas near Salt Lake." & Do you know that a lot of people are going to remember their friends on Christmas with a fine young chaste salute, and a good wish for the day, leaving the present for the children, their rightful right-ful owners. There were a couple of stunning little ladles, In brown, if I remember, in a shop one day last week picking up calendars, and inexpensive gifts, and it seamed sovery sensible. flB This raco for supremacy to ace who can go in Hbt the deepest for the ensuing year is terribly Hblish, and amounts to a white man's burden that Bto say the least most irksome. Christmas is up jKthc kids, let the grown-ups devote themselves to Hg-nogs and good wishes. B The dance to be given by Miss Geddes is be-iDk be-iDk looked forward to with much pleasure by her ffljDnds. About fifty couples will be present. H ? to W" The High School Alumnae association Is plan-Sfflng plan-Sfflng another dancing party for the near future. Mll!b association has never shown such a fine JRrit as it is exhibiting this winter, and promises dRbe in a most flourishing condition by the end lE the school year. m t bt B The most elaborate events of the week were 19ffle gorgeous luncheons given at the Kenyon by JSrs. Alexander C. Ewing on Monday and Tuesday JHfternoons. The table for both events was ar- JEnged in the form of a hollow square In the large jHQrciwing room of the Kenyon, fifty guests enjoying Se elaborate menu on each day. K The decorations were exquisite and the largo .Bom presented a very beautiful appearance with Ke artistic decorations in red and green, softly jfflehted by many candles placed among the decora- JSns. '9H Mrs. Owing is a charming hostess, and her af-lralrs af-lralrs are always delightful events. IH a & JB Miss Emily Read was guest of honor at a tea Uren by Mrs. E. S. Ferry on Thursday afternoon, JE? which about a hundred friends of the young jMEJly were invited. H The men were included in the invitations, and JB5o event, which took place from5 to 7, was in lHery way dsHehtfully informal. The following IMEpung ladies assisted in receiving: Miss Geddes, Miss Williams, Miss Judge, Miss Kinney, the Misses Sherman, the Misses Kirkpatrick, Miss Salisbury, Sal-isbury, and Miss McGrath. t e e Anybody finding a hungry looking chameleon, looking for a warmer climate, will please return same to "The Porches." Said bit of color is a wanderer, and has not a very high sense of duty. He has been missing now for seven days ,and a reward is offered for his capture, if returned to Popperton Place. yyV y V The Alpha PI Frat is In the holiday arena with a Japanese Hop which is scheduled to take place at the University Assembly Hall next Friday evening. even-ing. It will be' one of the largest events of the season at the 'Varsity, and in the hands of the Alpha PI people should prove a delightful success. & & & Among the attractions for the and of the coming com-ing week will be the large tea given by Mrs. William Bayly, Jr., which will take place at the University Club next Saturday. & & & Mrs. John E. Woodward was the hostess at an elaborate luncheon at Fort Douglas on Wednesday, about twenty of her friends being entertained most delightfully. The guests were seated at small tables which were very attractive in the Christmas colors. Mrs. Woodward will entertain again next week. j & Jt There will be a general round of gayety at the Post next week, with the, arrival of General and Mrs. F. D. Baldwin, and the members of the general's gen-eral's staff. Captain and Mrs. Frank Morrow will give a tea in their honor on Tuesday, and others who will entertain at dinners and teas during their visit will be Captain and Mrs. Sturgis, ' Captain and Mrs. Perry, Captain and Mrs. Blake, and Captain Madden and his mother. Weren't there a lot of stunning women at the H Ferry tea on Thurcday? And evidently many of H those present had broken the resolution to get no jH new gowns this winter. Evidently, too, an Ermine H on the back is Worth six in the woods, for there jH wore enough present to cover a Ringling canvas. H & H The Jim Jennings entertained at a delightfully H informal affair on Tuesday evening. H Mrs. Russell L. Tracy entertained at an elegant H luncheon on Tuesday, in honor of Mrs. Hoyt Shsr- H man. H v 5 fcv H Mrs. John E. Dooly ontertains at a large lunch- H eon next Wedonsday afternoon. jH -v v fe C. II. Parsons entertains at dinner at the Alta H Club this evening. H & & H When a tea is given in honor of a lady, the H hostess needn't worry if some of her best friends H are not present. It is only natural to suppose that H they know why they are not expected. jH |
