Show B m i 111 f V Society EnJent of the XOeeK 11 & I Bad Breeding and The Last Five Minutes of a Play are the most faithful companions I know anything about, and the way they link arms and t make a dive for the center aisle is a spectacle for the gods and a source of disgust to the other half H H ij I of the audience which has time enough to see the H jS i J finish of the play. I wonder if the people who do it H M know how annoying it is, for if they do, they care H I nothing for the comfort of other people. I've often iH 1 I wondered if in modern theaters yet to be built H m Ij they'll suspend great cranes from the different gal- H m f lories, and have them constructed so that the au- H I i tomatic tenticles will grasp babies and other un- H J I ' rulies hurriedly and toss them into space. All in lit i favor, say "aye." f ;JI . J : ' ' Toward the finish of a play, no matter what it ' 1 be, a little love scene, some comedy, or a touch of Ij pathos, Dolly Dimpleknees begins to fish for soine- thing, then Lobster Hairpart with her, hauls his h m t) coat from the seat in front, two or three aisle H j roosters start toward the door, then old Mother H '. ! p ; Hubbard begins to put her glasses away, and H ! "ij Trifling Annie gets busy with a headgear and a H m ! V, long pin, some society brownies start bobbing H Ij I around, there is a scuffle for rubbers, a pulling of H JK'jU coats, a fumble of the loose things that are drop- H , tj ping on the floor, a buzz like the drone of "the H will busy, boozy, bees," and they're off. 1 liM H u And on the stage hell to pay, with the beauty H I , w s of a climax utterly lost in the waves of small talk HI ? 5 that precedes the drop of the curtain. HS i f HI'I . Among the most delightful events of the week HI'I were the afternoon card parties given on Monday H JM fj and Tuesday by Mrs. Joseph Oberndorf er. The Hi'l f former was in honor of Mrs. Siegel of Butte, and Hill h j about forty guests enjoyed the affair. The holl- II IE L1 ,J ay clrs were used most effectively, pink and HlSj green in the hall and parlors, and red and green B S; i t in the dining-room. The effect was produced with H ") asparagus plumosa and carnations. Sixty-three B i ' ' t was the game both afternoons, and about forty H ' guests enjoyed the events. H '81 i j I Cards have been received from Mr. and Mrs. B I'M Henry F. Douglas of Minneapolis, announcing the H W l marriage of 'their daughter Evelyn to Mr. Neale H m Murray. The event will take place Wednesday : m evening, December 17th, and after an Eastern H jj I trip, Mr. and Mrs. Murray will go to Bowling B: M S Green, Ky., to reside. Mr. Murray is a son of the B; $$ I late Governor Murray, and a nephew of David Bi ,1 $ Murray of this city. He was most popular in so- B ! 1 ciety here, and has a host of friends to wish him B I t happiness. H J H j 1 1 An announcement of great interest to society H: h was received during the week. It was the mar- B! m riage of Miss Bessie Remington, daughter of Mr. Bj II and Mrs. W. H. Remington of Tacoma, to Mr. B m James "W Bryan of Nashville, Tenn. Miss B m Remington was one of the most popular girls in the younger set here, and her many old friends will wish her all happiness. Mrs. J. R. Walker entertained at "Kono" Thursday evening. A three-card limit cut the winnings win-nings under those of preceding parties, but it was a merry affair, with plenty of excitement. The hop given by the guests of the Hotel Fifth East on Wednesday evening was a charming monotony-breaker, in a season of few dances. It is .understood that this is the first of a series of dances. ! The rejuvenated assemblies are a go. Enough subscribers have responded to make them successful, success-ful, and the first party will be held at Christensen's ,hall, Monday evening, December 22nd.
