Show Consolidation. The manifold advantages and the clear economy econo-my of uniting the governments of Salt Lake City and Salt Lake county were as clear a dozen years ago as at present. The late Hon. Francis Armstrong Arm-strong wanted it and at the time The Tribune supplied sup-plied all the arguments in its favor that are being used now. Mr. Howe, when Mayor, urged the same thing, but the separate governments supply some fifteen or twenty extra people with comfortable comfort-able offices and salaries and that has prevented the consolidation for ten years past. That is all that has been in the way, and the only question necessary to consider is whether the interests of those few office holders is paramount to the best interests of all the people in the county and city or not Every principle of business and economy as well as the desire to further the public good demand tho consolidation but the opposition has so far been sufficiently strong to defeat every effort ef-fort in the direction of right. |
