The house was gorgeous with H:1 a lavish decorations, each room, a bower of floral beauty of roses, chrysanthemums, carnations, palms and plumosa. About a hundred friends witnessed the ceremony, and remained to enjoy the Dern hospitality until Mr. and Mrs. Dick left for California, where the honeymoon will be spent. Mrs. L. C. Adams, Mrs. Clifford R. Pear-soil, Pear-soil, and Mrs. Robert Glendinning assisted Mr. and Mrs. Dern at the reception which followed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Dick "will make their home in this city. ffi t3 t Mr. Louis Cates, late of Boston, now of Utah, who arrived here during the week, looks like a heart smasher, and his work has been awfully fast in the few days time he has had for conquest. Two dinners, a stunt at the Country Club, and a theatrical party, looking as handsome as a picture pic-ture in the Newhouse box on Thursday night. Girls. tv v tV Today is your last chance to go to the Country Club. It will be closed tomorrow night till spring, and you will certainly have to hurry. The handwriting suggests a mob, for a great bunch will be here from Butte, and the club will be the real thing today and tomorrow, with nothing noth-ing else doing. Thursday saw the biggest attendance attend-ance in months, and with such additional attractions attrac-tions as Will Clark, Mantell, and plenty more, the little house on the hill will be a lively spot. The fight for the Leyson cup will be the big event, but the high ball caddies will also be busy. Ladies get on your best make ups early, and men leave your business as soon as possible, for business matters little, with a golf game in sight. & C Good news, beys. Mrs. S. H. Babcock is to have a guest from Nashville in a few days. And the reports in private circles are to the effect that she is a raving beauty, an heiress, and with but nineteen summers to hei credit. You know they have no winters in the south. If all reports aro verified, let's rfot allow" a moment of her time to ho wasted. tjtf IV The Sam Newhouses left for New York on Thursday, and will sail for Europe" next week. Sammie comes back the first of January, and upon his return Mrs. Irwin will go to Paris to visit her mother. Until then, the Jack Irwins will be at home at the Newhouse mansion. JX & & And now Violet Langham, sister of Baroness von Sternberg, is reported engaged to a German ! nobleman. The Langham girls seem disposed to be German leaders, and they are making great success of it. They have always been heart twis-! twis-! ters even in the old days here, when they played 'run, sheep run" at the old Continental hotel. t5 W fc5 The big annual event for week after next in the colored smart set is "the full dress ball to be given by the Knutsford waiters in Harmonie hall I on Thursday evening, December the tenth." B i? t v B Mr. and Mrs. Masters and Miss Masters have B returned to the metropolis after a prolonged stay B in Bingham. Their next stop will be in New York where they go in the spring. It Is awfully nice to have them back in town. They are of the Rood sort, with life enough to be a great help to a quiet gathering. & & & The stork will be about as busy during the holidays as the society Santa Claus. The bird has been hovering over the tops of two or three houses lately, and seems undecided as to which he will light on first. tv O 5 It is comforting in a rather dull season to know that Colonel and Mrs. Holmes haVe returned. re-turned. There will surely be something doing In the dinner-dance line during the holidays. t tW fcj Miss Ethel Bauer entertainud the "Dress Rehearsal" Re-hearsal" company of which she is one of the members, at an informal dance at the Kenyon on Monday evening. The dancing took place in the dining room, and a dainty bouffet supper was served during the evening. Mrs. Bauer and the Misses Boyd assisted in receiving. The pink and green luncheon given by Miss Leta McMillan on Tuesday in honor of Miss Dern was exquisite in its dainty appointments. Carnations Carna-tions and candelabra were used most effectively, and the place cards were clever water colors with cupids for subjects. Eighteen ladies enjoyed the event. We regret being obliged to go to press before hearing the lecture of the eminent artist, H. L. A. Gulmer on "The Domain of Art," which took place at the Commercial Club last evening. Among those entertaining at dinner Thanksgiving Thanks-giving day, were Mr. and Mrs. H. G. McMillan, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Fabjan, Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Dart, Miss Helen Gillespie, Mr. and Mrs. George Odell, Mr. and Mrs. William Bayle, Mrs. Priscilla Jennings, and Judge and Mrs. W. I. Snyder. The Third Street Card Club met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. T. Benson. "Aunt Hannah's Quilting Party," to be given at the First Congregational church next Friday evening promises to be a most entertaining affair. The German Club met on Wednesday evening with Miss Nason. Mrs. Ferdinand Dickert entertains at a tea December De-cember tenth. Mrs. Edward L. Sheets entertains at a large card party this afternoon. Mrs. Richard J. Evans and Mrs. Charles L. Hoag entertained at luncheon on Tuesday for Mr. and Mrs. Chappel. The University Chronicle Ball given last evening, was a brilliant success. Miss Salisbury entertained informally Monday Mon-day evening. Mrs. Charles G. Plummer gives an informal musicale this evening. |
