Show Robert Houston Announces Candidacy KANAB Robert Houston is hoping that the 'Trail's End" will be the beginning to a successful suc-cessful bid at the Utah State Legislature. Houston, a well-known southern Utah business owner from Kanab, has announced his candidacy for the 73rd District of the State House of Representatives. The seat is currently cur-rently held by Tom Hatch of Panguitch, who is seeking the Senate seat. "I feel that I can represent this district effectively," said Houston, "and be a good champion cham-pion for issues important to people peo-ple who live here." Houston has been a partner in the family-owned Houston's Trail End for the past 27 years. In addition, the Houston family operates a mobile catering business busi-ness which caters food for events and fires throughout the west. The United States Department of Agriculture recently honored the Houston's catering service with the 2001 Small Business Contractor of the Year Award. As an active community member, Houston has served on numerous boards and committees. commit-tees. He was instrumental in the -development of the Kanab baseball base-ball and football fields. Houston led a group of volunteers who in cooperation with the BLM, helped rebuild the Paria Movie Set. He has served as the Executive Director of the highly-successful Western Legends Weekend for the past two years. Houston served as Kane County Commissioner from 1978 to 1980. As a member of the Kane County Hospital I I ) t ., ; - Robert Houston Foundation, he personally lobbied lob-bied for and received Legislature approval of a 1 sales tax to fund the financially-strapped financially-strapped Kane County Hospital. On the home front, Houston and Daylene his wife of 32 years, are the parents of three children and ten grandchildren. 'There are three reasons I believe Robert Houston should be elected to the Utah State Legislature," ' explains Met Johnson. 'The first is that rural Utah needs someone like him to represent them. Houston has built a successful business and capitalized on the resources available to him, all the while providing for his family.
