Show Literacy Grants Awarded By Marsha Holland Last month Bryce Valley High School received the 100 percent for Kids grant from Utah Credit Unions for $5,700. Utah Reads has since awarded the school $1000 in matching funds and State Bank of Southern Utah pitched in with a final $200 to fill in the gaps necessary to purchase pur-chase all the leveled books needed need-ed from Scholastic Books. The wish list of books has since been ordered to fully outfit the ResourceReading Program that has been so successful. The Bryce Valley Book Club also has purchased and dispersed its first 20 books to lucky book drawing winners. The Club has been so popular that 14 more students and nine adults have signed up purchasing their own books. In total 894 readers and chapter chap-ter books of various genres and reading levels through 9th grade were purchased, 100 Language! Student workbooks, 60 Language! Readers and two huge Language! reference books and vocabulary word card sets. If generosity moved mountains in our beautiful valley, Bryce Canyon would be a hundred miles away. Many thanks from the Bryce Valley High School staff to all those who gave funds to help our readers excel. |
