Show i Bobcats Edge Mustangs For Region Title Panguitch and Bryce Valley - battled Tor the Region 15 Championship in Bicknell last week, with die Bobcats coming from behind for die win. The Mustangs had beaten Panguitch twice this season, the only losses loss-es for the Bobcats on die year. BV led 15-8 at die half as PHS failed to score in the second period. Bryce Valley still led 23-20 after three periods, but the Bobcats broke loose with a 16-6 fourth quarter to win 36-29. Hailey Sawyer (15) led the scoring for Panguitch, followed by Chelsea Birch and Oaklee Orton with 8 each and Jennifer Perkins widi 5. For the Mustangs, Jenne Comp scored 8, while Kali Pollock and Christina Cantu each scored 6. These two Garfield County teams will each receive a free pass into the State Tournament February 16-19 in Richfield. Bryce Valley got to the final by defeating Milford 46-28. Jenne Comp, a sure first team All-stater, drained the nets for 28 points in this win. Christina Cantu scored 6. Panguitch opened die tournament with a 49-26 win over Escalante the first day. Halie Sawyer, another All-stater, scored 24, Jenn Perkins 10 and Oaklee Orton 9. The next game saw PHS trip up the surprising Piute T-Birds 56-29, as Sawyer went for 20, Perkins 14 and Orton 8. Piute, winch finished third after defeating Milford 57-50, was led by another Garfield County player, ' Heather Allen, . who scored 15 in that game. I Heather lives in Antimony and had a fine region tournament. Piute upset Wayne to start the tourney. Escalante lost out to Wayne, 49-26, despite 14 points from Brooke Griffin. Wayne defeated Valley 60-50 for fifdi and sixth. The third and fourth place teams host a "play-in" game, while fifth and sixth must travel. In boys play, Panguitch and Escalante played an excellent game before die Bobcats tipped the Moquis in die end 57-49. Rawley Burningham went 6-6 from die line as the game went down the stretch to clinch the vistory. Cameron Leach went for 19 and Tyler Barney 18 to lead PHS scoring. Ryan Cottam scored 16 and Garrison Lyman for the Moquis. A sad note in tliis game was a shoulder injury to Escalante star player, Adam Mclnelly. We are cheering for a rapid recovery for Adam. Bryce Valley broke out with a win 51-48 over Wayne as Jory Twitchell blasted away 'for 28 points and Hayes Mecham chipped in 11. Escalante slipped past Bryce Valley 58-50 in a game that was close most of the way. The Moquis had a third quarter quar-ter spurt that ended up being the difference. Chad Cottam drilled 18 and Ky Roiindy 14 to lead Escalante. For die Mustangs, Jory Twitchell scored 12 and Steven Litdefield 10. The boys region tournament is in Cedar City at Cedar High February 24-26. |
