Dixie National Forest Service officials traveled from Cedar City on Monday to observe first hand the results of heavy flooding through Red Canyon over the weekend. Forest Service engineers will continue the assessment trying to estimate the dollar value it will take to repair damage to the bike lane, broken water and sewer lines to the campground, various dug out riprap sites along the stream banks and general flooding cleanup. USFS spokesperson Fran Reynolds has consulted with the Garfield County Commission and others who have earlier earli-er partnered with the Red Canyon projects and hopes for financial assistance. She noted that the Forest Service had previously diverted as much funds as possible to support fire fighting efforts across the nation. The portion por-tion of the bike trail is currently closed for repairs and the campground remains open with reduced services. |
