Wayne reports ' that his son, Douglas, and Douglas' wife Sandra, will be serving soon-in soon-in the Tongan Island LDS Mission- ; where Douglas will be the mission ; '. president. He served there as ; '. young man, as a missionary for the ; ,' Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -; Day Saints. Douglas attended high;' ; school in Escalante for a year or; -; two and lived with his grandmother,; -; Dicy Porter. He later became a; ; partner in an accounting firm of" '. -Behrens and Banks and has been-; -residing in Virginia. Wayne is',': proud, and rightly so, of Douglas' ; -accomplishments. 1 ; '. ; Congratulations to Weston and ; ; Jennilee Jones Johnson who were -; married Apr. 20, 2001. Weston is' -; -the son of Aaron and Michelle,' -; -Johnson, Cedar City; his grand-;; ; '. parents are Robert and Louise; '. ; '. Liston, Escalante, and Gerald; ; ; Johnson, now living in Kanab, and the late Jeraldene Johnson. Gerald ' and Geraldine owned the Quiet Falls Motel when they lived here. Jennilee is a daughter of John and Trish Jones, Richfield. Richard and Montell (Monty); Revord are home after spending most of the winter in Florida with their kids. They did spend three weeks in Michigan, with some of-their of-their other children, for Christmas, but weren't too impressed with thei weather there. Said it was too cold and snowy! Monty is not as old as she thinks she is. She drove all the way home from Florida. It took from Wednesday to Saturday night. That's quite a drive for anyone, so she did great! They said they enjoyed their kids and grandkids but are glad to be home again. And it's good to have them back! Bill and Sharon Francisco and family, Cedar City, spent the Easter weekend here. They took a tour of the desert, etc. I asked Bill if he-saw he-saw any people on the desert and he said, "No it just looked like Salt-Lake Salt-Lake City!" The family of Sherrill and Karen Ott, Tropic, came to spend Easter Sunday with Doyle and Thermal Cottam and the families of Myron ' and Brent Cottam. Arnold and Deon Alvey spent' Easter weekend in Las Vegas, ;' Nevada with their childreTTrthe ' families of David Whitefield and' Andy and Denise Dube. Douglas and Barbara Haycock, their daughter and son-in-law, Natlie and Steve Mallory, all of Las Vegas, Nev., visited with Stanley ' Haycock and the family of Gordon and Almeda Haycock over the ' weekend. Natalie is the LDS ' Young Women's President down there. She brought a youth group and their chaperones to scout the area during the Easter weekend. Visiting at the home of, Dwight and Christine Haycock were daughter. Missy Shaefcr and Cris's sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Steve Sorcnsen, from Salina. Blaine and Nancy Porter are all moved into their new home. Nancy even has the flowers all planted! Her family came to help with some of the finishing up last weekend. Her parents, Sid and Ruth Ervine, came from Salina; her brother, Donald Ervine, and four children came from Fillmore; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Steve Hoggard and four children came from Hyrum. Albert and Trevor Poulson, nephews were also here from Salina. Martha Schow is home and recovering from back surgery. Lorcta Spencer recently had knee surgery in Cedar City. She may require some rehab before she can come back home. Linda Stokes, Riverton, visited over Easter weekend with her mom, Betty Alvey, but had to be home for Sunday. Her husband, Jay, is the bishop in their LDS ward now. Betty spent a few days in Riverton visiting with the Stokeses and Irene and Greg Tait in South Jordan. They attended the performance by "Riverdance."" Betty said she could have watched all night, it was that good! ' Also visiting at Betty's home was Ferrell Roundy, of Taft, Calif. Ferrell has decided he will retire this spring! He lias taught at the university at Taft for 40 years, so he has earned his retirement. He will spend his time writing more books now. He has five out already; you can find them on the internet. Carrie Griffin took five grandchildren grand-children and went to Cedar City to spend Easter with the family of Boyd and LaNell Cottam. Mac LeFevre, Boulder; Mike LeFevre, Norwalk, Calif, and Sharon Poos, Merino, Colo., visited in town one day last week. They said they had also visited with Stan Mecham in Tropic, who has been laid up with some broken ribs. Norman and Ardis Christensen have been touring with their daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ellynd and Matt Bulloch, Cedar City. They visited in Glenwood Springs and Meeker, Colo.; Sheridan, Wyo.; and Billings, Mont., where their daughter, Vadas Green and Vada's daughter, Stacie, came from Big Timber, Olda., and met them for a visit. Norm and Ardis then drove down through. Idaho, by way of Idaho Falls and on home. They were gone for a week and said they really had a good time. The daughters of the Utah Pioneers held their monthly dinner meeting at the senior citizen center (See ESCALANTE on Page 4-A) ESCALANTE From Page 3-A) last week. Golda Cottam gave the history of Past DUP National President, Laura Hyde Merrill and Sue Bassett gave an outstanding lesson on San Juan County, complete with slides she had taken of the area. She left right after the meeting to go to California. She must have made it alright, she is back teaching school this week! |
