Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Six young women and six young men from the Escalante LDS First Ward enjoyed a day at the St. George Temple recently participating partici-pating in baptisms. Included in the group were: Ashley Beebe, Ashley Carter, Stephanie Cottam, Heather Koyle, Julie Koyle, Riley Smith, Scott Beebe, Clayton Carter, Levi Costigan, Chad Cottam, James Crawford, and Tyrell Koyle. Cha-perones Cha-perones who accompanied them and provided transportation were: Bishop Bish-op Wade Barney his wife Shelly, Laura Koyle and Monte and Jill Marshall. After attending the temple tem-ple they did a little shopping and ate at Chuck-A-Rama. It was a good day for all. . Stanley and Marlene Stowe spent the weekend in Price. They went to help their granddaughter Angela celebrate her birthday. Angela's' parents are Alan and Kathy Shelley. Ross and Nadine Shelley, the other set of grandparents, grand-parents, came for the party, too. They live in Vernal now, are doing well and said to tell all their Escalante friends, "Hello." Alfred and Connie Jepsen are having some remodeling done on the house that belonged to Connie's mother Nellie Bailey. They took the weekend off to go to Salt Lake , City for the wedding of their grandson Lang Fay, son of Shauna Fay of Cedar City, and Raegan Davis, Da-vis, 'who hails from Salt Lake City. Lang and Raegan will live in Cedar City and continue their education at Southern Utah University. Congratulations Con-gratulations to the newly weds! The open house for the newly renovated senior citizen center drew a large crowd on Friday, Feb. 23. Senior citizens from the Bryce Valley area and Panguitch came to join in as did members of the Five County seniors organization. Five County AOG director John Williams Wil-liams came from St. George and Bob and Brenda Rasmussen were here, from Enoch. Commissioners Clare Ramsay, Tropic, and Dell LeFevre, Boulder, were in attendance; attend-ance; also the contractor, Ed Welsh and son Zachary, Ogden, and engineers engi-neers John and Sandy Spendlove, Richfield. It was a nice day and everyone was pleasantly surprised at how well the whole project turned out. The center honored Melvin Alvey, who turned 93 on Jan. 20. A little late, since the center was closed at that time, but he enjoyed it anyway. Doran Smith went to Tucson, Ariz, last week and brought his mother Garneal Smith back home. She spent more than a month down there with her son and daughter-in-law Dane and Sharon Smith. She enjoyed her visit, but was glad to get back home. By the time you read this, Glade Reynolds and Darlene (Griffin) Pierce will be Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds. They will be married in Richfield and will live there for the time being. Congratulations to them! Jerry and Sherree Roundy went to St. George on business. They dropped Betty Alvey off in Cedar City where she met her son Johnny Alvey and his two sons, Cameron and Carson of Palmdale, Calif. They stayed overnight and attended the region basketball games, then Jerry picked Betty up and brought her back home. Frank and Angie Alvey had planned to attend the (See ESCALANTE on page 3-A) I I ESCALANTE From Page 2-A . games with their family, but Angie's sister passed away, so they went to Grouse Creek to attend her funeral. Our condolences to them. Velma Boulter spent a few days -in the hospital in Cedar City last week following surgery. Deon and I : Arnold Alvey took her to Cedar . t .'City, then her daughter Sondra ; Boulter and grandson Jerry Lund ;came down from Lehi to be with ; her during the surgery. They came back again on Friday to take her to the care center in Panguitch, where ! she will spend a few days in rehab ', before returning home. She is glad '. to have the surgery over with, I finally! ', Sue Bassetfs mom Enid Bassett of Parowan came to town on ; Monday and stayed overnight with Sue and Iona Alvey. She also en- joyed a visit with the Mug Club. ' In the LDS second ward, Clo-! Clo-! rene Vidrine reported her mission ! on Sunday. Family members, from ; out of town, were: Marty and ; Debbie Vidrine and son, Tyson, j ; Riverton; Greg and Rachel Vidrine j ; and family, Mountain Green and I Dick and Donnette Lee, St. George. Crawford were speakers. ; Josh Townsend, son . of David j ; and Cindy Townsend was in a bad I ; car wreck near their home in ! Oregon. It was feared he may suffer i some permanent paralysis, but ' i . latest reports are that he will most i '. "likely be okay. His grandfather, j I John Townsend, who also lives in j ) Oregon now, recently had hip i ; surgery. Maybe the two of them i J can convalesce together. We hope I ' they both heal quickly. !.. JJa Bell is in Salt Lake City, i with her daughter, where she can be j i , near her doctors. She has been ; ; having cataracts taken off her eyes. ; , Four of our high school stu- dents were involved in a one-car ' crash on the "Blues" last . Tuesday i evening. Libby Venuti, Courtney : Renaud, Andrea Schulkoski and " Nathan Lyman were on their way to basketball games when their car ; -went off the road and down an embankment, just above the -"pond". They all had their seat .belts on and none appeared to be seriously injured, but Libby and Courtney were taken to the hospital for X-rays, just to be sure. They are all back home and nursing some sore spots. Eva Dean Liston has another grandson getting married. Michael Blakey and Jocelyn Waddoups will be married Mar. 10th in the Mount ;Timpanogos LDS temple, in American Fork. Michael is a son of Steve and Beth Blakey, Spring-ville. Spring-ville. Jocelyn is a daughter of Royal Roy-al and Gloria Waddoups, Moore, -Ida. Congratulations to them! |
