Show GSMUWTU fJcl'JS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 We are still alive in Escalante, some of us not too well. Between smoke and dust, it has been a trial to even breathe lately. Hopefully next week will be better. Maybe we will get some rain to put out the fires and settle the dust! I was under the impression there was a "no burn" policy in effect. How about you? Brittney Sande fer and friend, Bill Steele, Grand Junction, Colo., were in town for the Escalante Hugh School graduation. gradua-tion. They visited at the home of Brittney's mom Faye Lyman. From there they went to California for a little vacation before returning to Colorado. Eldon and Angie Griffin recently returned from a trip. They first visited with Angie's daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Virgil Sickles in Richfield. From there they went to Billings, Mont., for the graduation gradua-tion of Eldon 's twin daughters, Susan and Sarah. On their way home they stopped in Riverton, Wyo., to see former Escalante residents and friends, Howard and Sally Davidson. Everyone seemed to be doing well. Frank and Elaine Rowley, Safford, Ariz., were in town for a visit. They used to live in Escalante when Frank worked here for the BLM. Stanley Haycock had his children and grandchildren here for the Memorial Day weekend: Janice Reardon and children, Cedar City; Dawnita Dunham, Tropic; Woodrow and Helen Haycock and son Trevor, Taylorsville; Doug and Barbara Haycock and part of their family fami-ly from Las Vegas, Nev.; and visiting also with Charlene and Jimmy Woolsey and Gordon and Almeda Haycock Were Cris and Jana Haycock and baby from Las Vegas: Raymond and Marsha Griffin, Richfield, and Marilyn Brandt, were here and visited with their brother Alan Griffin. Raymond and Marsha were showing all the cute things they are making out of wood. Since Raymond retired they have made quite a business out of that. Bill and Bev Kuhns just got home from a five-week trip back East. They were particularly particu-larly impressed with the Archways in St Louis, Missouri and went as far North as Canada. They stopped all along the way and saw everything they could possibly crowd into five weeks' time. i Ray and Lois Barney, Kaysville, stopped over on their way to California for the wedding wed-ding of their granddaughter Janelle Black, daughter of Tom and Cindy Black. It will be easy to remember Janelle's new name as it will now be Janelle Black Ford! The Barneys spent a couple of days with Ray's mom, Grace Barney, before going on to California. Clorene Vidrine went to Mountain Green for the graduation gradua-tion of her grandson Nathan Vidrine, son of Greg Vidrine. She also attended activities for a couple of younger grandchildren grandchil-dren while she was there. A group of ladies congregated congregat-ed at the senior citizen center to celebrate the June birthdays of Velma Boulter, Eva Dean Liston, Sylvia Luker and Tehlma Marsh. In attendance besides the birthday girls were: Deon Alvey, Betty Alvey, Twila Mclnelly, Marlene Haws, Eva Haws, Ruby Griffin, Clea Woolsey, Suddie Okomoto, Garneal Smith, Martha Schow, Golda Cottam and Clorene Vidrine. Thelma Marsh had the family of Warren and Kathleen Woolsey here from Cedar City (See ESCALANTE on page 9A) Escalante News From Page 8-A for Memorial Day. I hear Warren cooks a mean breakfast. The neighbors said it sure smelled good! Twila Mcinelly spent three days on the Boulder Mountain, at the Singletree campground with Kent and Phyllis Mcinelly. She said the weather was wonderful won-derful those few days! One of the LDS ward Relief Society organizations from Wayne County had invited Phyllis to come and talk about the book she wrote about her mother. Twila said they also had a very nice social and a great meal at the campground that day. Marlow and Christa Schow came from Salt Lake City to spend some time in their home here. It is always good to see them. Freland and Phyllis Alvey, Donnie Randall, and Norman and Ardis Christensen all went to Tooele for the blessing of little lit-tle Cole Danger Murray, son of Austin and Cory Murray. Cory is the daughter of Clyde and Terrie Christensen and great grandpa, Freland Alvey, blessed the baby. Jean Dutton, Ephraim, spent a few hours here with her sister, Phyllis Alvey, last week. The first James Calvin Schow family reunion, was held last week at the home of Cal and Martha Schow with 18 in attendance. atten-dance. Included in the group, along with Cal and Martha, were: Nicole and Alan Cavaleri and son Bradon, Henderson, Nev.; Brendan and Amber Robins and son Braxton, Scipio; Melanie and Dale Robins, children chil-dren Tara and Brady, Scipio and Chad and Stephanie Homer and four children, Ryan, James, Josie and Trent all of West Valley City. They were having altogether too much fun. The neighbors were all wanting to join in! Bob and Mavis Munson have returned from their LDS mission to Hong Kong. They gave their report in LDS sacrament meeting, meet-ing, in the second ward, on Sunday. All of their children were here; Bob's brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Cheryl Munson; his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Floyd Tucker; uncle and aunt J. C. and Eva Haws. Maybe I can get more names for next week. |
