Show Cannonville On Track, Moving Forward "You can fool some of the People all the time, but not all the people all the time." Some people in town like to belittle Al Stone because he has done much in four years and they have done nothing ever that they didn't get well paid for doing. Here are a few things that Al accomplished in his short period as Mayor: Paid off a high interest culinary culi-nary water loan, $16,500; stopped our one source of water from getting polluted again, sealed off tank and rebuilt box-with box-with check valve, $10,000; new lawn mower and sprinkler system sys-tem for park, $7,000; did all in his power to develop town water rights on Merrills Bench, $29,000; enlarged park and made park improvements (new baseball backstop, outdoor basketball bas-ketball court, trees trimmed, fence and grass seed, etc., $35,000; planning study, environmental envi-ronmental studies, source protection pro-tection studies for culinary water, all needed for grant applications, appli-cations, $36,000; built new town hall in order to keep clinic in Cannonville, cut heating and air conditioning bills, $37,000; sold property and obtained grants for new town hall construction, $275,000; water improvement project which included new trunk lines, fire hydrants, new water tank and new well to meet state fire codes and alternate source requirements.-This , was accomplished as follows: grants, $510,000; low cost loan (1.11 percent per year), $300,000; 'water fund, $5,000; county donation, $20,000, for a total of $835,000. The grand total was $1,271.50 Al is the first one to thank Joe Hughes, Tom Shakespeare and Ben Mathews for all their donated donat-ed time, labor and advice all for free. We can all complain about water increases, but we are still at or below the state average cost. In addition, we now have . an alternate source that should last for the next 50 years.
