Show CJGl'JS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Some of our residents braved the threat of snow and went clear to Idaho for Thanksgiving. Vickie Schulkoski and daughter, Andrea went to Parma, Ida., (near Boise) to spend Thanksgiving with Vickie's Mom. v They came home on Saturday and said it was a long, snowy ride home. They saw lots of cars off the road and some on their tops, so they were glad to get home all in one piece. Al and Lani Barlow went to Tucson, Ariz, to spend the weekend with their son and his family. They feel like they are missing out when they don't get to see their teenage grandchildren grandchil-dren and participate in some of their activities. Hope you had fun guys! Lane Liston had cataract surgery sur-gery last week. His neighbor, Gloria Porter, had surgery on x tier sinuses. Don't know if they tnought to call each other and compare notes or not. Hope they heal quickly. Lane and Geraldine Liston had the family of Gary and Sandy Liston from St. Johns, Ariz, home for the holiday. When I called to check on them Gary said Emilee Clark had them all over to get them trimmed, curled and beautified. Oh, to have a beautician in the family! Gene and Thais Griffin came back from Mesa, Ariz, to spend the holiday with their kids. They had all of them here except Matt and Stephanie Volker, who had to divide their time with Matt's folks in Texas. Rae Smith, Henrieville, and Don and Dorothy Burkhart, Peoria, Ariz., spent some time here with Margo Smith, then they all went to Parowan tp have Thanksgiving dinner with George and Barbara Paris. Pratt and Areola Gates went to St. George to visit Russell and Carol Sorenson and the grandkids. Brent and Patrice Cottam went to Phoenix, Ariz, for doctor doc-tor appointments. They stayed with Bernell and Ann Roundy while they were there and had a good visit with them. They made it back home in time "to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Shondelle was home from Cedar City and Ryan came from Orem. Klyn and Marlene Haws joined them for dinner. All of Myron and Sannette CottamVkids were home and they ate with grandpa and grandma, Doyle and Thelma Cottam. Jimmy and Jolyn Spencer came from Orem to spend the weekend with Mary Griffin. They brought granddaughter, MacKenna Brian and MacKenna's mom, Mandy Poteet, joined them for Thanksgiving dinner. Eldon and Angie Griffin went to Phoenix, Ariz, to spend some time with Dallas and Jenny Griffin and Scott and Wendy Johnstone. I'd bet money that they shopped until they dropped too! Lee and Kathleen Williams went to Idaho Falls, Ida., to spend the holiday with their daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kyle Staples. They got home earlier on Saturday so didn't did-n't have quite so much snow to deal with. Marge Isaacson, Tremonton, spent the Thanksgiving weekend week-end with the family of Richard and Victory Crawford. Julie Lyman and part of her family came from Oregon to be with family members here. Don and Sue Mosier went to Mesa, Ariz., to have turkey with Sue's Mom, Pat Sorensen. I guess they had turkey. Anyway they went on the Thanksgiving weekend. Hal Shurtz called to say that all his kids met at Kerry and Jenny Shurtz's place in St. George to spend Thanksgiving day together. There were 31 in attendance. Scott and Julie Appleby were even able to come from Milwaukee, Wise. They also celebrated Hal's birthday. They had put together a book of remembrance and presented pre-sented it to him. They danced, with Vickie Nelson, on the piano and Hal, on guitar, providing provid-ing the music and they had an all around good time. Betty P. Alvey spent Thanksgiving with her kids in the Richfield area. Christine Morrill lives in Richfield, Sammy and Shelley Alvey live in Monroe and Steve and Dianna Alvey live in Joseph. Construction has begun on the new First Baptist Church. It is located just south of the Turnabout offices. Members from three states were supposed to be here last week to help get it framed up. They are hopeful that they can get it closed in so they can work on it this winter and have it ready to occupy in the spring. This is all under the direction of the Pastor Dan Parrish. . Besides Justin Porter and McKay Bailey, Delane and Quinn Griffin also participated in the Bob Ott wagon train trek (See ESCALANTE on page 7A) ESCALANTE From Page 3-A to the Hole-In-The-Rock. Sounds like it was a really inspirational inspi-rational trip! On a sadder note Condolences to the family of Nelda Willis at her passing. She was a great lady, and nurse, and helped a lot of us raise our babies.. Our condolences to the family fami-ly of LaRue Spencer who passed away at her home , last Wednesday night. Ike Sevy reports that his sister-in-law, Oma Thompson Sevy, who used to live here and some of you older people will remember, passed away in Kellogg, Ida. She was married to Jim Sevy, . formerly of Panguitch and was the daughter of Johnny and Ina Alvey . Thompson. Condolences to her family In just a week's time the weather has turned from summer sum-mer to winter and we are content just to stay indoors, turn the heat up a little higher and leave the shoveling to the skiers up North! |
