Show EscalantQ News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 LaNell Cottam, Cedar City, and her two children, Jaimie and Quen-ton, Quen-ton, came over and picked Carrie and Jessie Griffin up and they all went to Idaho Falls, Ida., to see the family of Troy and Rhonda McMur-trey. McMur-trey. The McMurtreys have a new home and three little boys now. LaNell and Carrie stayed three days then left Jessie there to work this summer. Danny, Lois and LaRue Spencer and Garneal Smith went to Mes-quite, Mes-quite, Nev. on the weekend for the wedding of Tatum Jensen. She is the granddaughter of the Spencers and the daughter of Theron and Chris Jensen. The wedding took place in the LDS Temple in Las Vegas, Nev. and the reception at the Jensen home. Dudley and Hazel Spencer entertained enter-tained a group of 18 from St. Louis, Mo. last week. Dudley's son-in-law, Mike (Lois) Roos brought four counselors and 13 boys and girls for a week of exploring explor-ing the area. They stayed at the Spencers at night and took day trips to the mountains, the valleys and the desert. They also visited Ko-dachrome Ko-dachrome and Bryce Canyon. It was different country than they had ever seen before and they were really intrigued by it all. A trip they'll never forget! The Sons of the' Pioneers had a campout in the Sweetwater Bear Creek area past Blue Spruce and toward Salt Gulch. Only five couples cou-ples camped this time as everyone ev-eryone else had other commitments. Those who did camp were: Marvin and Gloria Porter, Bob and Mavis Munson, Vergean and Carolyn Porter, Por-ter, Al and Lani Barlow and Elwood and Vaunda Willis came from Glenwood to join in the fun. Le- . wis and Jean Griffin went over to join them for dinner one night and ' took two couples who were here visiting with them. Kim and Vickie Nelson, Washington, Wash-ington, came for the weekend to spend Fathers Day with Hal Shurtz. Valerie Huntington came over from Cedar City on Saturday but missed them because they were in Wayne County eating out at one of the new restaurants. On Fathers Day they had dinner at Ruby's Inn. Hal's son Kenneth and wife Tracy have a baby boy who is only the third Shurtz boy out of all his grandchildren. He is looking forward for-ward to getting acquainted with all the little new grandchildren when they come for the Shurtz Reunion in July. Darrell Alvey came from Prescott, Ariz, to see his Mom, Melba, and Arlis Brooks. He took Melba and they went to Monroe to see his daughter Nadine and David Woolsey and the grandkids. Theron and Dixie Mitchell went to Richfield for a reunion of the William and Maggie Mitchell family. fam-ily. They represented the Eddie Mitchell family. Venid (Mitchell) and Wayne Bailey were there from Sandy; Flora (Mitchell) Marchant, Peoa; Firley and LaVene Wilkens, St. George and Cloyd Mitchell's wife, Velma, was there from Kingston King-ston with part of her family. Gary Spencer and family, South Jordan, were there and acted as hosts this year. Gary is the son of Jessie and Arthella (Mitchell) Spencer. Alvin Cowles is the host at the KOA Campground where their reunion was held. They said he went all out to see that their stay was a very pleasant one. Leah Griffin and two daughters, Brenda Griffin and Marlene Stowe, went to St. George, picked Ann Haws up and went to a fourth (See ESCALANTE On Page 4-A) Escalante News : From Page 2-A : daughters home in Mesa, Ariz., that of Marilee Miller. Grandma, Leah, did the babysitting one day while the girls took a trip down into Old Mexico, then Marilee's husband, Jeff, did the babysitting while the ladies took in a movie or two and did some shopping and the last morning they were there. Marlene wouldn't let them leave until they went to the dollar store just one more time. (And she's a banker?) That shows that you can have a lot . of fun for a little of nothing! Stan and Jan Liston spent the weekend on Cedar Mountain with Jan's sister, Ruth Shakespear, and family of Overton, Nev. ; Arnold and Deon Alvey spent the weekend at Singletree Campground Camp-ground on Boulder Mountain, with the family of Jim and Lola Alvey, Mapleton. I hear the ladies are getting get-ting to be quite the card sharks! Nothing serious, just a friendly game! Dot Coombs came from Boulder and took her mom, Fay Alvey, to St. George for a doctor 'appoint- ' ment. Everything was okay and they had an enjoyable day together. Howard and Sandra Miller went to Nebraska to visit Howards family. fam-ily. As they were getting out of their car upon returning home Sandra San-dra fell and broke her arm. It was a bad break and she spent one night in the hospital. Norman and Ardis Christensen . made another trip to Tooele last weekend. This time for the wedding wed-ding of their grand daughter, Christy, who is the daughter of Sam and Mary Blauser. Pat Sorensen is home from Mesa, Ariz.. I asked why she didn't bring some warm weather with her when she came, but she says it hasn't been all that warm in Mesa this year! It always turns hot overnight, over-night, so it's coming! Pat and Bobbi Coughlin have both been ill, but when I called to check on them Pat was at the water board meeting! Darren Coughlin, their son, came from St. George to spend the weekend with them and to help out until they were feeling better. They will go to St. George this week for tests. |
