Show Wild And Scenic Rivers Packet Now Available Preliminary determinations of classification and eligibility for Wild and Scenic Rivers in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument are now available for public review and comment. This has been a joint effort with the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Na-tional Monument planning office and Dixie National Forest, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Glen Canyon National Recreational Area in order to include portions of rivers that extend off the Monument on to adjacent Federally managed areas. ' This approach recognizes that inherent in-herent resource values, and threats to those values, are interdependent and continuous within a watershed. The process has also involved consultation con-sultation and participation with state and local governments, and there have been several public meetings. meet-ings. The eligibility packet can be reviewed re-viewed on the Grand Staircase-Escalante Staircase-Escalante National Monument's website at www.blin.govutah monument. For those who do not have access to the web site and would like a hard copy of the packet, call Matt Stafford at 435-865-51 16 or Chris Killingsworth at 435-865-5118. Deadline for comment com-ment is May 11, 1998. |
