Show Panguitch News By Mamie Talbot 676-8084 The lovely butterflies are beginning begin-ning to flutter around the yards. Henry and Tanya Thomas have covered their historic old brick home on the east edge of town with gray siding. It looks so neat and pretty. The old home belonged to Uncle Lon Hancock years ago. Gale and Gai Wilcock, Tanya's parents par-ents bought it. The Bob Benfields are home from the far south. Dolly Henrie will be home after June 19 while her daughter, Alice Priest, visits from Washington. She looks forward to visits from her friends and relatives. Lamar and Clara Worthen are home. Dan Marshall, Monte and Cleo's son, called from the north to report a correction on the 1871 blacksmith John Myers account. He was not the first blacksmith in Utah but was a very early blacksmith in Panguitch. Older folks will remember re-member him as the grandfather of such men as Ambrose, Jim, Horace and Caeser Myers. He was Cleo Marshall's great-grandfather. Monte and Cleo were in Salt Lake City recently re-cently where Monte had medical tests and visited with his still living liv-ing brothers and sisters. Dan reports re-ports that-Marilyn Allen Marshall received her masters degree in education educa-tion and daughter Ann Marshall received re-ceived a bachelors degree in zoology from Southern Utah University (SUU). Marilyn Bulkley has also received a masters degree in education educa-tion from SUU. Susan Owens Allred and two daughters, Rebecca and Melanie Allred, were in town to visit dad and grandpa Kem Owens. Lloyd and Joann Beckstrom are here from California. They have a big garage on the lot south of Art Partridges and keep their boat and a house trailer there for use in the summer until they get a house built. Lena Miller and Marilyn Miller Veater were in town for a few days. Lena lives in Richfield with daughter daugh-ter Gaitha Lyons and Marilyn lives in St. George. Panguitch LDS Second Ward conference speakers were Bishop Kenneth Miller, Stake President Shannon Allen and others by invitation. invi-tation. Brent Roundy, son of Delin and LaVee Roundy will report his Portugal mission June 30 in the Third Ward. Panguitch native Nina Steele McQuarries grandson, Michael Melt Steele, son of the Donald Steeles was married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Lynda Alsop of England. His father was unable to be there as he is serving as LDS mission president pres-ident in England. Former teacher, principle and superintendent of Garfield County schools, Russell G. Merrill, died recently in Salt Lake City. He visited vis-ited Mary Henrie here a week before he died. Panguitch native Getta Miller Orion died in Parowan. She was Mac Miller's sister. Marion Burgess had surgery in Salt Lake City. Lots of folks were here for Memorial Day: Aunt Mary Perkins welcomed Ruby Judd and husband; Jay Riggs had daughters Kathy Riggs and Martha Riggs Ipson and Cecil Clark, Logan, visited and spent time at his lake cabin. Barbara Gai Marshall and daughter daugh-ter Melanie were at their cabin and of course saw mom Hilma Excell. The Hal Wilcock family were at Norma Talbots. Arthur and Dorothy Chidester visited mom Hilda at the Care Center. Rhonda LeFevre was at parents Jerry and Deanna LeFevre's. Stuart and Wilma LeFevre visited home town folks. Bonnie Owens had sister Claudia McGuire visit. The Allen Millers had Liz Barney and family and the Kim and Aleene Sherwood family. Arthur and Sheri Miller went to Cannonville for the mission report of her grandparents Desmond and Gretha Twitchell. Ken and Emma Ahlstrom visited their son in Denver. Billie and Wallace Miller had nephew Darrel Moores visiting. Bob and Beverly Davis were here. Sharron Moore threw a surprise birthday party for husband Keith. His brothers, sisters and sons families fam-ilies were here. Alana Davis was honored in graduation for her great artistic contributions con-tributions to proms, Bobettes and other town functions. Don and Alta Excell were here for a few days. Mike Dalton sold the Conoco Station to Charlie Cooper. Mike Connell visited his mother Edna Clarke before he goes to Indonesia for a month. Avis Worthen Heidt and sons were here. She is Clara Worthens sister-in-law. Aurelia Goulding Adair visited her mother Hope Goulding. The children of DeWitt and Beth Heywood honored their parents on their 50th wedding anniversary on June 1 at the Rustic Lodge where 50 friends and relatives gathered for dinner, short stories and a whole lot visiting. They then returned to their home where more friends and relatives came for cake and punch. The Heywoods have one son Dan E. and Janet Dodds, four daughters Diana and Brent Hancock, Janice Coon, Delayne and Jay Whitting, and Cindy and Bobby Comoeaux.. Here for the celebration were Dave and Margaret Heywood and daughter Linda Dodds; Norma Woodard, wife of the late Dale Woodard and granddaughter. The next weekend the Heywoods went to Salt Lake City for a grandsons wedding and visited with mother Mary Cherrington. She is doing as well as can be expected for 95 years old. She is in hopes of being able to walk and coming home by early July. An LDS mission farewell was held for Bradley Cole. He is the son of Rena Cole and the grandson of the late Jay and Maud Dickensen. |
