Show 54 Percent Vote Passes Bond Garfield County voters passed an $8 million school construction bond by an unimpressive 54 percent and an equally unimpressive 36 percent turnout of voters on Tuesday, but high school students will get their new school in Bryce Valley, an auditorium and expanded classrooms in Escalante, and elementary school students will have a new multi-purpose room in Panguitch. With only 51 percent required to pass, the final vote count of 496 for the bond and 428 against was enough to make the difference after November 1995 when only 42 percent of voters voted in favor and 58 percent against. The vote broke down as follows: Antimony, zero votes in favor, 36 votes against (100 percent against); Boulder, 11 for, 16 against (60 percent against); Cannonville, 42 for, 23 against (65 percent for); Escalante, 122 for, 65 against (53 percent for); Hatch, 19 for, 7 against (73 percent); Henrieville, 37 for, 24 against (61 percent for); Panguitch, 130 for, 228 against (64 percent against); and Tropic, 146 for, 45 against (76 percent). s |
