' : , '': ' I . .. i" ' v ' Panguitch High School wrestlers competed in the Region wrestling competition held at Piute last weekend, where they won second place. Coach Frank Houston's team lost out to Wayne, but will be in great shape for the state tournament. which will begin this week in Salt Lake City. Winning first place in Region from Panguitch were Jeremy Poll, Colin Marshall, Mike Marshall, Jeremiah Boger and Shawn Olsen. Placing second for the Bobcats were Matt Houston and Ozro Hulet, Lloyd Mathews, Andrew Red dan, Christi Nay, Jennifer Bulk-ley Bulk-ley and Molly Christensen, stat girls; third row: Lindsey Bremner, stat girl, Bryon Hathcock, Mike Wilson, Ozro Hep worth, Mike Marshall, Mar-shall, David Redding, Adam Soper, Justin Nelson, Byron Hathcock, Andrea Hathcock, stat girL front row: Shawn Marshall, manager, Ryan Dastrup, Randy Bridges, Cache Miller, Whitney Housston, Roy Seals, Nate Houston and Lonnie Milgate, manager. Panguitch Grapplers Capture Second At Region Hepworth. Placing third were Chris Mock, David Klein, Lloyd Matthews, Chad Ostrom, Adam Soper, and Lance Sawyer. Danny Young grabbed fourth for the Bobcats. Overall, it was a very fine performance for Panguitch High. Colin Marshall was named one of the outstanding wrestlers of the tournament. In basketball, Panguitch girls defeated Milford 57-36. Senior guard Cindy Peterson knocked down 14, Catherine Howard 12, Rhonda Hatch 9, Jennifer Bulkley 9 and Lisa Duff 8 to lead the Lady Bobcats. This win not only helped Panguitch, but puts Escalante Esca-lante ahead of the Tigers in Region Re-gion play. Escalante will be in the girls state basketball tournament tourna-ment for the first time ever. Despite De-spite losing to Piute 50-37, the Escalante girls played well Saturday Satur-day night. Brittany Sandefer scored 14 and Nicole Cottam 13 to lead the Moquis. Congratulations Congratula-tions to the Lady Moquis. In boys hoops, Panguitch stopped Escalante 68-55. The Moquis came from 23 down and cut the lead to nine in the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats pre vailed. Henry James led all scorers with 20, Mayo Miller hit for 14 and Nate Moore scored 10 for Panguitch. Ryan Cottam nailed 17, Drew Coombs 14 and Dustin Shakespear 11 for Escalante. Esca-lante. Bryce Valley played a consistent consis-tent game, but Valley got hot from the outside, hitting six three- pointers to defeat the Mustangs by a score of 68-50. Paul Shakespear led the BV scoring with 12, Lance Foster came up with 10 and Dallas Clark scored 9. The Mustangs finish up their regular season this week at Piute. In other boys games, Escalante Esca-lante travels to Milford and Panguitch Pan-guitch hosts Wasatch Academy. All games will be played on Thursday because of the state wrestling meet. The Sophomore Tournament will be held in Valley Val-ley beginning Friday. County girls basketball teams will begin playing at the State tournament at Southern Utah University Uni-versity on Wed., Feb. 18. The Lady Moquis will play at 10 a.m. and the Lady Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. at the Centrum. |
