Drive down River Lane and see the beautiful animals, sometimes all in one field. There are alot of herds between be-tween here and Panguitch Lake. In the valley, the crows give life to the air around the cattle herds. Last week, the basketball and drill teams had a lot of activity in town. Thanks to John Yardley for reporting these happenings that many of us don't get to see. Jim and Betty Cooper are here from the north where he has been getting medical treatment. Jim is doing well and they are happy to be home. We've had quite a number of deaths that affect our folks here. Glade Owens told us that his sister, sis-ter, native Lola Owens Barton is the grandmother of a young mother, Heather Barton, who along with her new born baby, were killed in a car wreck in Salt Lake City as they were returning home from the hospital there. Jesse Willis said all of their family fam-ily was home for the funeral and burial of son Tony Willis. Jesse's girls have moved in with their mother to help her with her needs. Jay and Juanita Talbot's families fami-lies were here from all over for his funeral. Devaur Talbot and John Yardley were speakers. It was good to see so many we haven't ha-ven't seen for years. Mayo and Hazel Rich were at their winter home in Las Vegas when he passed away. The funeral fu-neral was held in Tropic on Friday, Fri-day, January 23. Bill DeLong died in the local Care Center where he and Elaine have been for quite some time. Our thoughts and love go to all our hometown dear ones. Seems like too many are gone in a short period of time. Darren and Kizzy Jones of St. George visited grandma Alta Or-ton. Or-ton. They all went to Tropic for the ball game and visited with Steve and Machelle Pollock. They also got to see the new home of Wally and Lynnette Or-ton Or-ton before returning to Panguitch to drop Alta off. Darren is a son of Joann Orton. In Panguitch LDS 4th Ward, Jeannie Willard was called as organist and Gary Leach as Primary Pri-mary teacher. Steele Millgate and Cache Miller were Youth speakers. Elders Westley Harris and Nathan Christenson reported their missions in Sacrament meeting. meet-ing. The Jeff and Shawn Taylors are home from a trip. The two camps of Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp held their monthly meetings in the City Library. Li-brary. The lesson was "Early Settlers Set-tlers of Rich County". Carol Dodds gave a short history of pioneer pio-neer Panguitch school teacher George Dodds. June Owens gave a history of her grandmother Hannah Han-nah Holyoak LeFevre. Hope Goulding reports the death of a baby boy born to her granddaughter and husband Stan and Marilyn Adair Shank. Elders David and Dan Peterson Peter-son reported their missions in Panguitfch LDS 4th Ward. David was in Argentina and Dan in Guatemala. Gua-temala. The twin elders sang a song in Spanish. Mike and Matt Black, another set of twins, were ordained to the office of teachers. Vaughn Heaton was sustained Mission Leader in the Ward. Barbara Orton got word from 20 year residents and neighbors in Panguitch, who are now in Lebanon, Leba-non, Missouri, David and Melly Bridges, that David is in a Springfield Spring-field hospital with serious medical medi-cal problems. We wish the best for you Dave and Melly. The mission farewell for Elder Bronson Barton, son of Neal and Tammy Barton was held in Panguitch Pan-guitch LDS 2nd Ward meeting on I January 18. Talks were given by ; Kelsie Barton, JoNeal Barton, Derek Barton and Elsie Hatch. ; Bronson and a group of his friends and cousins sang "Armies of ; Helaman". Mom Tammy, dad Neal, Elder Bronson and Bishop Kenneth Miller spoke. Grandmothers here are Elsie Hatch and Orva Frandsen. Michael Foy, son of Stan and Lana Foy, was ordained a priest. Liz Gilbert was called to the Primary, Pri-mary, and Annette Orton was called to the Primary. Bishop Kenneth Miller blessed his little new granddaughter Macy Dawn, daughter of Michael and Misty Miller Jonart. On January 11, Mendy Orton and Casey McCullough were Youth speakers. Elders Westly Harris and Jeremy Henrie reported their missions in Panguitch Lds 2nd Ward and the Primary children chil-dren sang a lovely song. Jeff and Penny Richards and little red headed son Brooklyn were here to see grandma Ingra Richards. Jeff is Kay and Ann Richards son and little Brooklyn is Ingra's first great-grandchild. Ned and Mary Richards had daughter Alesha home last week from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, and son Bryan here from Community College in the Provo area. Don and Lucile Bridges went to Clearfield to help Lucile's mom Myra Miller celebrate her 94th birthday with a family dinner and get-together. They spent several sev-eral days touring the area around Clearfield with sister Virginia Gibbany. The sisters enjoyed shopping and several more fun things. Earl and Lola Henrie, Merle and Pauline Prince, Sheldon and , Lucille Proctor, Maloy and Carol Dodds went to Denver, Colo, to the Livestock Show and made it back to the quiet country safely. The also visited with the Prince's daughter who lives in Colorado, Panguitch native Doris Walker Rappley died in northern Utah. Her funeral was held Monday, January 19 in Sandy. Doris is survived by three children and families, brother and sister-in-law Royce and Pearl Veater Walker of Panguitch and San Diego. She is the daughter of Ted and Susan Walker (deceased). The Walker family lived in the brick home in the southwest corner of town, presently owned by LaMont and Linda Bardwell Olson. A son was born to Shane Walsh and Kim Hughes. Dakota Shane Walsh, born January 21, 1998. Grandparents are John and Shirley Hughes, Nancy and Robert Rob-ert Walsh. Great-grandparents are William and Mahala Hughes, Clarence and Hazel Cameron and Bob and Nell Walsh. |
