Allen and Tammi Schmidt had a pleasant visit with Tammi's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Later. A group from Dixie College called the Elder Hostels stayed recently re-cently at the Bryce Valley Inn. There was forty in the group and Gayle Lynn Pollock took them to Kodachrome State Park and then met with them at the Scout House one evening to tell them about the geology of this area. Ryan Shakespear had his wisdom wis-dom teeth out in Cedar City. Mother Margaret Shakespear brought him home to recuperate . Hope you are feeling better, Ryan. It was reported last week that Malen and Marian Mecham went to Bear River City for a testimonial. Others attending were the Franz Shakespear family and Kay Shakespear with most of her family except John and Carl Shakespear. John Shakespear was one of the youth speakers in LDS church meetings. Father Carl was there for support. Other youth speakers were Leslie LeFevre and Haley Syrett. All were excellent talks. Larvin and Eva Pollock went to Salt Lake City when their son, Jerry had his surgery. They planned on being gone 10 days and ended up being gone three weeks. On the way up they went by Bill and Stacey Pollock's in Delta and spent Easter with them. They then went on to Marian Allen's in Orem, where other daughters Pauline Allen from Tulsa, Okla., Juanita Price and daugther from Chicago, 111. and Maureen Reed from Mesa, Ariz, all met. They had a big family fam-ily dinner, then when Jerry's surgery was postponed for a week, Juanita flew home, then came back when the surgery was done. They are very close to brother Jerry and family support is so important at a time like this. While they were in the family waiting room they met a lady that was there waiting for her husband in surgery. As they were visiting, they found out it was a sister-in-law of Kerry Nelson who was high school principal here a few years back. Kerry called the hospital to check on his brother and Mrs. Nelson told him that the Pollock's were there and so they got to visit with him. He called the next day, Mrs. Nelson wasn't there, so he asked for the Pollocks and visited with them again. While they were up there Eva visited with sister Velma Wosab. She was fine that day but has been sick since. Jerry Pollock is home now and looking good, he will go up for radiation ra-diation the last of May for five weeks and they hope that will keep the tumors from growing back. When Larvin and Eva got home, their son Bill Pollock called telling them that daughter Mary had an emergency appendectomy, and that their oldest daughter Tori was engaged en-gaged and planning a wedding in July. They stayed with Marie's parents and grandma and grandpa had the privilege privi-lege of tending Katilin and Jacob while daddy, Gayle Lynn Pollock was at work. Visiting at the Lester and Vertis Clarke home over the weekend was son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Tori Clarke and family. Then grandson and wife.Troy and Lesa Clarke visited and gathered family ' history information at the center. They spent a lot of time at the beaches, but enjoyed it because they had such a good visit with family members. mem-bers. Had a nice visit with Jean Syrett. She said that Ella Bybee is back in her own place and that the operation was a huge success. She and Ella spent a week in St George. I think they really enjoyed each other during this recuperation of Ella and I'm sure Ella is thankful she had a sister to help out when she needed her. The third and fourth grade classes taught by LaDora Baugh and Vicki Syrett, went on a field trip Thursday, May 2. They went by bus to Bryce Canyon. The historical his-torical staff had prepared notebooks, note-books, pencils and baggies to gather fossils in, then they came down and hiked between Cannonville and Tropic and looked for fossils. The children were tired but happy about what they learned. Even some parents were tired but it was a satisfing day for most of the group. Visiting at the John Henry and Joni Lyn Mecham home was her mother, Dixie Penrod from Salt Lake City. She had been in St George and stopped by on the way back home. Clive and Thelma Bybee were in St George as granddaughter Jessica Caster had surgery. They came home, then headed north to attend a baptism of granddaughter Ashley, daughter of Paul and KayLyn Harward. Sara Littlefield accompanied Karen Ott to St George and they both attended at-tended an LDS temple session. Then Karen took Melinda Ott and a niece shopping while Aunt Sara enjoyed watching people, that can be quite interesting sometimes. Doug and Vicki Ahlstrom are in Texas picking up son, Michael from his LDS mission. Can't believe be-lieve his two years are up and then I think he even extended his time. Charlie and Eva Dean Francisco had a house full as sons-in- law and friends came to help build a shed for Charlie. A granddaughter, Sheri Griffin from Monroe, came to help grandma feed all the men. Eva Dean Francisco has been down again with bronchitis. Her therapy is coming along so well, they are thinking of scheduling her for just two days a week instead of three. George and Nell Wilson were at the Salt Lake Clinic, as George had been ill. He said they put him on some antibiotics and as he so aptly saidTm afraid I'm going to live." Sure glad to hear that as we would miss you! Nell still has trouble with her shingles, guess once you have that virus it keeps returning. As I was visiting with Betty Lou Wintch she said that daughter Pam Spencer explained to her that when we see a neon light and some of it's bulbs are burned out, that as we grow older some of our bulbs burn out and the medicine that we take and (some of us feel like it is a lot) but that brings our bulbs back. That we should be thankful that we have medication to help us live longer lives and enjoy our "golden years." I liked that information and wanted to share it. 4 |
