Show BOX ELDER HIGH GRADUATES I 1 I 1 I 1 apostle david 0 mckay addresses A graduates at commencement exercises sunday night the commencement exercises of the box elder high school held at the tabernacle in this city sunday evening were largely attended and the program rend rendered ened was very appropriate and impressive the heart 0 of every father and mother present beat with pride and gratitude as the splendid graduating class 0 of one hundred and eleven young men and young women marched mair ched up the oie main isle ot of the tabernacle to take their seats at the t he front it was an inspiring slight sight marking the completion of high school work of 0 these young people and their commencement men cement on oil the voyage of 0 life to greater attainment the program opened with a selection by the high school choir the vesper bell by wilson under the direction ot of prof E D mann invocation was war offered by J rolla mahoney a member azember faculty followed by a violin solo ably rendered by leroy halverson accompanied by miss aliss clara watkins apostle david 0 mckay was introduced by principal F A hinckley and in his address to the graduates said your success will depend on your doing every little thing well ile he said amen to the su Gli offered in the opening prayer tor forthe the best growth and development ot of these young men and young women its an inspiration to be ini im the presence ot of youth lie he continued he spoke ot of the great achievement ot of utah in education and in in home building and said that there Is even something greater than this that we must always stand for and that is character building in the realm ot of character every boy bor and girl may become tsu supreme preme he said a as was christ young men and young women should have this as their goal continuing he said the greatest man Is he who chooses the tight right with invincible resolution resisting the forest temptation from within and from without he enlarged upon some ot of the evils ot of life such as indolence vulgarity disobedience and licentiousness and warned the graduates against these evils in concluding I 1 apostle mckay said to the graduates 1 I ask you to make christ your ideal whose life and whose gospel should be the anchor ot of every boys and every girls soul ile he gave the scriptural quotation for what shall it profit a man mail it the shall hall gain the whole world and loss lose his own soul apostle mckays address was a soul inspiring appeal tor for the higher ideals in lile life and was listened to wl with th rapt ait attention by the vast audi audience enoe A chorus was beautifully full y rendered by a number of young youn gladies ladles the valedictory address was given by miss margaret pratt and was a masterpiece it appears in full in another column 0 of this issue supt bupt 0 H skidmore tead read the names of the graduates and as they marched across the stand they received their certificates ot graduation an able address was delivered by president john J Sh shumway univay ot of the board ot of education followed by a selection entitled garden of the by the choir be benediction was pronounced b by y rev C E fowler |
