Show Panguitch Wins Pair; Bryce Valley Drops Game To Valley By John W. Yardley Panguitch High School rolled back down the track of the winning train this last week with wins over Escalante 78-50 and Parowan 62-43. Bryce Valley, meantime, was momentarily derailed with a loss to Valley in league play 86-61. The Panguitch girls team took a loss at allpv The PHS boys made a strong showing against a determined Escalante crew that never gave up on the night. The Bobcats went to a steady diet of inside power and just kept the Moquis at bay. Up by 36-16 at half, PHS was able to do about everything right. Despite the loss of key players, the Moquis managed to play close in both of the two final quarters. Wally Dodds led Panguitch with 20 whoppers, followed by Dave Henrie with 16, Travis Hatch 14 and Clint Barney with 12. Brian Roundy and Davis Reid for Escalante, scored 13 each, the only Moquis in double figures, but a strong support cast including strong play from Troy Olsen off the bench helped the Moqui cause. Martell Simons scored eight and directs the offense. John Catmull and Kerry Shurtz each hit for four and foul-plagued Ray Gardner scored a hoop. Panguitch got rewed-up against Parowan in their homecoming game. Up by a score of 26-18 at half, the PHS team really got rolling the second half for a 19 point win. Clint Barney blew . out of his shooting slump with 27 points on a variety of twisting moves inside and deft touch from the perimeter. Dave Henrie hit for 10 and Travis Hatch nine. The Bobcats play Wayne tomorrow night at Wayne on a game to be heard of KMXU F.M. Bryce Valley went to Orderville with a chance to get into a tie for second in the division, but it was not to be. Valley just came at the Mustangs full throttle to lead 45-27 at halftime. The Mustangs were reined in a bit in the final quarters and could never quite get into the flow. Shawn Chynoweth again led the scoring with 31 big points. Panguitch girls team fell out of solitary possession of first place in the region with the loss to Valley. The Valley bunch, stinging from the two point loss earlier at Panguitch, blew past the Lady Cats and it never was really a game. The girls begin region playoff games in two weeks in Panguitch. |
