Show Bryce Valley's Mustangs Win Easily Over Pirates By John Yardley The Bryce Valley Mustangs galloped gal-loped to an easy 89-66 non-league victory Saturday night over the defending 1-A champion Green River Riv-er Pirates in Tropic. In an abbreviated abbrevi-ated week of play, the Mustangs had the only practice game of the week. The Mustangs played very well against one of the top post men in the state in Leon Carter from Green River. Coach Dan Haskell got some great playing time from his junior varsity as well as top scoring from Derrick Clark gunning in 24, Bryant Shakespear 18 and David Shakespear, just a sophomore, also tanked a season-high 18 for Bryce Valley. Mathew Shakespear, another sophomore, also played an excellent game in the absence of a couple of players and a foul-plagued Ryan Shakespear. This week, the Mustangs travel to play Valley, currently ranked second sec-ond in the state, at Orderville. The Mustangs may possibly be one of the top two or three teams in 1-A at this writing, although the pollsters have yet to discover them in the Salt Lake City papers. Panguitch and Escalante also get back into action this week with the Bobcats entertaining Piute on Saturday Sat-urday and the Moquis hosting the Badgers from Wayne. The Panguitch girls play Enterprise, Enter-prise, the class of 1-A girls, on Friday Fri-day night in Panguitch. |
