Don Dixon, 57, a career veterinarian veteri-narian in Richfield, filled his muzzleloader muz-zleloader permit with a brownish-blond brownish-blond 6-7-year-old boar, taking the animal with a 50-caliber Gonic muzzleloader. The bear had been identified by area cattlemen as the "blond" bear that had been getting after their cows. Dixon has hired McClain Mecham of Mecham Outfitters, Tropic, to guide him on Boulder Mountain. Mecham and Dixon went out for two days on the final weekend of August and picked up the trail of the marauding bear, but failed to get him. They went out again for three days on the Labor Day weekend and bagged their bear. Dixon, a naiive of Washington state, has hunted most of his life all over the West and in New Mexico, Canada and Africa. He has hunted deer, elk, cougar, lions, leopards and lots of bear and along with his record leopard. His most unusual V kill was a Persian Ibex. In his Boulder Mountain bear hunt, Dixon used horses and hunting hunt-ing dogs provided by Mecham. He said he likes to use a local guide who provides equipment and knows the area. Dixon used Mecham Outfitters to hunt a 30-inch buck on a previous previ-ous occasion on the Paunsagunt and is planning to use Mecham again in two weeks to shoot a muzzleloader elk hunt video for footage for commercial use. Don's wife is Joanne Dixon who had a conflicting engagement in Seattle this Labor Day weekend and could not accompany Don as she usually does.
