Show Like many of you, Phyllis An-gcll An-gcll has been thinking about sending send-ing in the following idea for a year or so. Finally she just told me about it: To prevent spatters Phyllis Phyl-lis tried inserting the beater stems (before assembling them in her electric mixer) through two small holes in the center of a sheet of waxed paper large enough to cover the bowl. This worked so well, she improved on the idea by substituting substitut-ing plastic shower caps for the waxed paper. Using a paper punch, she punches the holes in the exact center of the caps and reinforces the holes with strapping tape. The caps fit snuggly over bowls of various sizes; they're easily washed; and can be used over and over. Wax paper works just as well, though, but it's handier to have several caps on hand ready for use. Thanks and a copy of "Kitchen Tricks" to Phyllis for sharing this mess-preventing idea. Dear Vi: Cover the outside of tuna cans with felt or adhesive-back paper. Put rubber bands in the can and paper pa-per clips around the rim. So handy on a desk or in the kitchen. B. Jones, St. George, Utah Apparently almost everyone uses disposable diapers these days, but in case you have some old cloth diapers, use them for quick cleanups for kitchen and bathroom. Shine the mirror, chrome fixtures, tub and sink with a dry diaper, then wet it, wipe up the floor, and wash it with your next load so that it will be fresh and clean, all ready to be used again. When I no longer had diapers it's been a long time since my last baby I smarted cutting qld , sheet blankets into squares to use the same way. Not quite as soft and absorbent as old diapers, perhaps, but how handy to have a supply of fresh cleaning cloths in a drawer ready to use. Dear Vi: We mend small holes in window win-dow screens with a few drops of model-airplane cement. For larger holes, cut a square from a discarded screen and glue it in place. No old screen for patches? No problem; just substitute nylon net. Now is the time to paint screens to protect them from winter storms and thus prolong their life. First vacuum off all the dust, using the dusting attachment, or lacking that, tum the vacuum upside down and run the screen over its mouth. With the screen lying flat so that the paint won't run as it dries, apply the paint with a rag or a paint roller. Dwain C, Rcxburg, Ida. Thought for the day: Have you noticed that when you have an overabundance of a certain vegetable veg-etable or fruit or anything, for that matter, you never seem to want it very much.
