Show "feBRYCE CANYON NEWS)) By Marta Peterson 834-5306 Snow, snow and more snow. Bryce Canyon has been the lucky recipient of southern storms that are so full of moisture. The skiing is perfect with many trails in the park set by Tim Wright, Clyde Stonaker, John Morlock and Charlie Peterson. An especially popular ski track is the course to Bryce Point. The view at the end of the trail is a definite reward for the effort invested in the ski trip. Ed and Peggy Uptain have continued con-tinued their daily walks through the snow and cold. Visitation at Bryce Canyon over the holidays was high. Bryce is becoming better known as a winter park as well as a summer destination. desti-nation. Dave Mecham has rejoined the Bryce Canyon staff as a volunteer in the Interpretive Division. He'll spend the next four months helping on special projects as well as spending time at the visitor center front desk. The spectacular snowstorm of last week succeeded in closing school for a day, causing employees to be late to work and just generally creating havoc. Bryce Canyon received re-ceived 14 inches of snow in about 14 hours. Clearing sidewalks was quite a back breaking chore. Thank goodness the maintenance crew removed re-moved the snow from the roads and the housing area driveways. Their hard work is greatly appreciated. Clyde Stonaker is enjoying a few weeks of warm tropical weather while he teaches a ranger skills class to Panamanian park personnel. person-nel. He said he was going to miss the snow but he had a slight smile on his face when those words were spoken. The families living in Bryce Canyon are excited that the Doug Brennemann brood is going to be moving up to the park later this winter. Their house is being readied read-ied for them with a new coat of paint and new carpet. Bob Nalwalker, Leah Smith, Tim Wright, Jim Quitter and Dan Foster are attending the Emergency Medical Technician training that is currently being offered at Ruby's Inn. After completing the course and successfully passing the exam, they will be ready to practice their skills during the busy summer months. . . i |
