Show IN california elder wendell M jensen gives an interesting account of two years on the pacific coast huntington beach calif december 9 1923 1925 editor news for the past two years I 1 have looked forward to the coming of the box elder news with almost the same degree of anticipation as when one awaits the arrival of 0 a friendly letter I 1 have welcomed it as such tor for it has rought me regularly the news ot of home happenings the current events ol of the home town are 0 of intense interest to one who is away especially to the missionary so through the calums of this paper I 1 extend my sincere ampre i elation to you and to all who have contributed to its success during my mission I 1 have traversed nearly tile the entire state of california laboring in both the northern and the I 1 southern parts 0 of the state my aly first appointment was to the sacramento gridley conference which conference c 0 comprises n 1 0 o all the territory from the oregon 0 r e g a line ne to stockton a point fifty miles south of sacramento within that conference there are six progressive branches of the church aside from sunday school and relief society organizations at stockton and roseville v it was my privilege to labor in cal capitol city approximately a year my aly labors there were very dear to me for the members and the non members in that section are very pleasant people to work among no doubt I 1 was more appreciative of my work at sacramento by reason of my laboring there at two different periods one during the first three months ot of my mission and the other after I 1 had been at chico about eight months A highway experience stands out in such singularity that I 1 cannot tore fore gogo relating it IL my aly companion and I 1 had been appointed to organize a branch of the church at macdoel Mac Alac doel a section of 0 country within a tew few miles of the oregon border which was being reclaimed by mormon people this necessitated a trip of nearly seven hundred and fifty miles As most missionaries sion aries are accustomed to traveling we went on the highway our trip to Alac macdoel doel was highly successful notwithstanding our encountering a severe rain storm a day atter after beginning our trip which threatened to last ast for days it being the tall fall of 0 ehg th year As also there were dangers from froin snows in that northern country ML art shasta in that section being pe perpetually r petua lly snow capped and had it not been for heavy rains on our return trip which made it necessary to travel by rail a hundred and fifty miles our journey would have been made entirely upon the highway and here I 1 might add that hwaying hig Is one of the most enjoyable features of missionary work for thereupon one has the opportunity port unity of conversing the principles of religion with persons whom he otherwise seldom meets transfers and adaptation to new fields of labor abor are but an integral part of the life of the missionary however much one becomes attached to his field of labor it seems that a transfer is the inevitable end though it Is a good like everything pertaining to the work of the lord it begins in duty but ends endi in delight and it Is only by the adaptation adap to new environment and the mastering of circumstances cu cum ms that the individual grows in this the long deach beach conference I 1 have greatly enjoyed my work some of my companions are my old acquaintances for five of them besides myself are from box bos elder county were once students of box elder high school when aben the work in this conference is compared to that of the north there Is a slight difference inking but none in degree for missionaries everywhere are bending their best efforts to the accomplishment of the masters pu purposes reposes and with the dally supply of a half million people offered in behalf of the missionary their work is bound to end in joy again I 1 make acknowledgment ot of your paper ank and wish to extend to all of 0 its readers a merry aberry christmas and a happy new year way may the coming year by the grace of 0 the divine providence abound in peace and plenty and bring happiness to all very sincerely yours elder wendell M jensen P 0 box |
