Show tm .aaWSlllBBailllBllllHBHaRBiVBlB Some of the side benefits of fine arts show were the signed silkscreen works and block prints by students from Bryce Valley High School. The Hundreds of student and adult art works brightened all available space in the Panguitch High School gym as the fine arts exhibit sponsored by the Garfield County School district and the Bryce Canyon Communities Art Guild got fully underway this week. The exhibit began on April 27 with a 2:30 to 9 p.m. showing. An artists' tea from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday launched a week of art activities. Many and varied talents were expressed in oils, water colors, wood blocking, pencil drawings, inks7 block prints, silk screening, egg tempura, children's applique arts and many more. Over 20 local artists demonstrated their particular forte. Talented artists from all Garfield County schools and from the Panguitch, Escalante and Bryce Valley art guilds were participants in the event. Artists in 22 cities in Utah and one in Nevada sent their work for exhibition. Among the craft works were miniature forts and a six-foot battleship. Laura Julander, president of the Panguitch Guild and chairman of the exhibit, was wary but en- shows continue through May 5. Works from throughout the area were shown during exhibit. Hundreds Display Works At Panguitch Art Exhibit thusiastic over the event. "It has gone so well," she said, "everyone has been so appreciative of the efforts and the labor of love that has gone into the show." Jim Clarke, Garfield School District student and adult art teacher had some of his and many of his student's canvasses on display. "We're proud of our local talent" said Mrs. Julander, "We hope these exhibits will cause a desire for self expression in others. Bruce Owens, principal at Panguitch Elementary, received special recognition for his "outstanding effort and support in the arts during the 1984-85 school year" He was awarded a certificate from, Avery Glenn, chairman of Utah's Festival of Arts for the Young. The certificate was presented to Owens by a representative of the Utah Arts Council and Utah State Board of Education. Assisting Julander on the board are Luella Adams, vice-president, Lucille Bridges, secretary and Verna Owens board member. The exhibit runs through May 5 and "everyone is urged to attend this great event," said Julander. |
