Show ACCOUNT OF E continued from last issue there is a tine fine rot lot of 0 people traveling on this sap this trip we have met and brimme 16 very well acquainted with several of em among whom I 1 might mention prof james hobos hobbs ot of the michigan university and prof AT AI aexander raab of the chicago musical collese college one or our fellow passengers is james eads how popularly known in america as the millionaire AnNiona lre hobo he is a very pleasant traveling companion and you would never suspect that he had such a title notwithstanding that ot of the ten days wo we have been on the water seven of them have been stormy we ha have la had a very pleasant pl Lasant journey and not a little of oe the pleasure Is attributed to the very courteous treatment of 0 the officers and crew we have had concerts by the band wice twice a day several evenings moving pictures and for or those who c cared red to dance there has been dancing every night I 1 would I 1 like to tell you about the farewell or captains dinner but we are arc nearing new york harbor and the excitement and anticipation is too ab 1 corbing for concentration even en ca the subject ot of the captains dinner hall hail columbia happy land we are glad to be back bach again yours truly D it 11 wheelwright P S this letter did norget not aget mailed from new york so I 1 will add a few lines and finish the trip which we hope our friends have enjoyed with us there is considerable red tape landing but wa had no trouble as our papers were all in order the quarantine doctor and custom officials were very courteous we had declared everything in our baggage manifest so we had nothing contraband and nothing to hide our baggage was scarcely opened our sick son was permitted to remain on board until next day as we had to make inake arrangements for our trip trill on the railroad west from new york he flo was taken direct from the ship to the R it R station where his bed was ready waiting in a dra drawing iving room on oil the train the railroad officials showed us every courtesy they telegraphed ahead and had us met at chicago and transferred from the one station to the other where we were provided with a private waiting room until the train was as made up and the berth made ready in a private drawing room As we sped over the plains of 0 nebraska I 1 could not help but think 0 of the difference now and when rny my mother walked across these same prairies pulling a handcart years ago and then we sometimes complain and think our lot is hard we are now back in our dear old state of utah and as I 1 have so go often said it was good enough tor for brigham and it is good enough for me D RW 1 |
