Show N BOOTHE DIED SATURDAY early utah pioneer and resident of box elder since 1853 completes active and useful life lewis nathaniel boothe one of 0 the early utah pioneers and who has resided in box elder county since 1853 died saturday afternoon at 1 at his home in honeyville of ailments incident to old age following an illness of eight weeks he was in his year and probably the oldest man in the county mr boothe was born in wilcox county count alabama december 3 1832 his parents joined the morman church in mississippi in 1844 and in 1845 removed to nauvoo ill here lewis boothe and his brothers john and william were baptized into the church ill n 1816 1111 the family removed to winter quarters on oa their journey westward with the latter day saints and in april 1847 left winter quarters for utah arriving in salt lake city in the fall ot of after a short residence at bountiful the family removed to Ri verdale and in the spring of 1853 removed to harper in july of the same year they removed to brigham city the indians having become troublesome and dangerous to the scattered settlers along the north string mr air boothe assisted in the building of water courses roads bridges school houses and home in the early days in this city having passed through all the experiences of early pioneer life he was also in the military service and spent much of his early life here in fighting the indians ass assisting sting amii grant trains and people passing pa saing thru lutah atah on their way to california on february 26 he married mary jane reese at the old f reese te P i se homec I 1 in this city bishop alvin nichols performing the ceremony he moved to honeyville in the spring of 1373 1875 where he resided until the time ot of his death his first wife died in july 1875 and aej in ISSO he married elizabeth hunsaker beckstead Deck stead she died sept 2 1894 I 1 mr boothe served as a counselor to bishop shop hunsaker and to bishop wheatley at honeyville he also served as a school trustee tor for many years surviving are the following children J AL boothe and mrs alma hunsaker ot of aloney ville mrs airs J G wheatley and mrs airs fred Surn meril of ogden mrs geo T rogers of garland mrs airs lee bybee of idaho one sister mrs amanda hawkins Haw hins seventy two grand children IOS great grand children and two great great arand children funeral services were held this at hernoon at 1 at the honeyville Honc ward chapel under the direction of bishop leo hunsaker interment was in the brigham city cemetery |
