Show Miss Garfield Pageant Set For August 14 Planning continues for this year's Miss Garfield County Scholarship Pageant with contestants to be announced next week. The pageant is set for August 14 at 8 p.m. at Bryce Valley High School in Tropic. Adult tickets are $1.75 with special family tickets at $5. Each contestant will be judged on a point system and the contest will be operated according to Miss America contest regulations. Stress is placed on talent and scholarship and each girl may earn a total of 100 points. Talent is assigned 50 points, with the other 50 points assigned to swim suit appearance, evening gown appearance, scholastic achievement and personal interview. Miss Garfield County will be awarded a full tuition scholarship to Southern Utah State College with each attendant also receiving a scholarship. Each Miss Garfield Coumy contestant must be a resident of the county in the past or currently, must be single, never have been married, divorced or had a marriage annulled, must be at least 17 years old by September 1 and no older than 27 by the same date and will be required to present a two and one-half minute talent display. The contestant who becomes this year's Miss Garfield County will have her choice of competing in either the Miss Utah contest or the Miss Utah State Fair contest with her first runner-up having second choice. Rita Twitchell, Cannonville, is coordinating this year's pageant. Nancy Chynoweth, Henrieville, is chairman of the judges committee; Jeannene Pollock, Tropic, publicity chairman; Arjean TwitcheJI, Cannonville, and Rhonda Pollock, Bryce Canyon co-chairmen of the luncheon committee; Trish Thompson, Cannonville, in charge of gifts and decorations; Carla Ramsay, Tropic, program chairman; with Janice Hatch, Panguitch, and Judy Griffin, Escalante, supervising entries. |
