Show Commissioners To Attend State Meet County commissioners, assessors, and attorneys from all over Utah have been Invited to a meeting in Salt Lake City to consider coordinating proposed court actions of several counties or possible alternative actions, "'relative to the Utah Tax Commission's order to adjust valuations in each county to 20 percent of the 1978 property values. The meeting was called by John F. Tanner, executive director of the Utah Association of Counties. He said the Association does not have standing to bring action but that the organization is preparing public information to be "described at the meeting." Tanner promised the meeting "will be more productive than the one called by the Governor with the Tax Commission." Commissioner George Middleton will attend with County assessor Doyle Cottam. When asked If he intended to lend Garfield County's support to the move to oppose the Tax Commission's order, Middleton said no. He said that when Garfield, Summit and Wayne counties were faced with the same problem this past year, the other counties in the state ignored their plight and made no attempt to come to their aid. He said that Garfield County will support equalization at this point. |
