Show Two Baton Rouge, Louisiana residents became holiday accident statistics as Yewhu Chien apparent- Rash of Accidents Keep Officers Busy JL A series of highway accidents kept local law enforcement officers hopping during the extended holiday weekend period. On Friday evening about 11:30 p.m., the driver of an 18 wheeler traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 89 reported to authorities that his vehicle had just struck a deer south of the Asay Creek bridge near Hatch. Apparently unable to stop quickly and return to the scene, the driver sought the aid of local officers in removing the deer from the roadway. Only seconds after his call was received, Sheriff's Deputy Mark Johnson received a radio report that two motorcyclists had struck the deer. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Craig Johnson also responded to the call arriving at the scene within minutes of Johnson. The victims, Tracy Alan Rader, 18, and D'Lamont Stevenson, 18, both of Las Vegas, received cuts and abrasions. They were transported by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch where they were treated and released. On Saturday, two Baton Rouge, Louisiana residents escaped possible serious injury or death when their car left the road and rolled over approximately one and one-half miles south of the intersection of Utah Highway 12 with U.S. Highway 89. The accident happened about 11:30 ly fell asleep at the wheel of this car. Both individuals walked away with minor injuries. a.m. when the driver, Yewhu Chien, 29, fell asleep at the wheel. His passenger, wife, Anna Laio, 24, escaped without injury but Chien was treated at Garfield Memorial Hopsital and released. Their automobile was demolished. A third accident on July 1 resulted in the driver of one vehicle being cited for driving under the influence. Don Wagner, 30, Panguitch, was cited with a DUI after his car collided with a four wheel drive pickup driven by Eugene Woolsey, 27, also Panguitch. Wagner was traveling northbound on the Panguitch Lake Road when his vehicle collided with Woolsey's pickup. Both vehicles sustained extensive damages. Wagner was transported to Garfield Memorial Hospital by ambulance where he was examined and released. On Friday, July 3, Stephen D. Pelligrino, 28, Las Vegas, apparently traveling too fast for road conditions, lost control of his pickup on a soft shoulder, rolling the vehicle at least twice. The accident occurred about 11 a.m., two miles north of Bryce Village on Utah Highway 12. Both Pelligrino and his companion were thrown from the pickup, with Pelligrino sustaining possible head and chest injuries. His passenger escaped without injury. The injured man was attended by Emergency Medical Technicians who transported him by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch where he was later transferred by Life Flight to Salt Lake City for treatment. Responding officers were Garfield County Sheriff Don Mosier and Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Craig Twit-chell. On Sunday, Jody Kay Barney, 16, lost control of her car about two miles south on the Panguitch Lake Road, running off the road about 5:40 a.m. She sustained minor injuries with about $800 in damages to the vehicle. |
