Show PTA Sponsors Center To Educate Parents Garfield County's newest aid to parents and youth will be the Parent Education Resource Center (PERC) to be established with office space in the newly remodeled Panguitch Community Center. To be staffed entirely by PTA volunteers, the Panguitch-Hatch PTA has donated $200 toward the first materials to be purchased for the new center, Garfield County commissioners were approached by Superintendent Henry Jolley of Garfield School District and Mrs. Glen Brown, education commissioner for the Pangtiitch-Hatch PTA, for additional assistance. Jolley pointed out approximately $1,500 was accrued to the county from juvenile fines paid last year and requested that commissioners consider granting one- half of the proceeds from this year's fines toward the new center. His rationale is "some positive steps might be seen in applying part of these funds toward juvenile education of both parents and youth with the result being fewer juvenile crimes." Commissioners granted his request and will budget $800 for the new center in 1980. Designated as a "community project," the center will serve citizen; of the county with donated funds to be used to purchase supplies and materials. Similar projects have met with success In other areas In Utah. PERC will provide instructional parent education materials along with training and service necessary to assure wise and effective utilization of the materials. |
