Show "Aunt Fern" Henderson shows off a bottle of her famous pickles which have earned her a reputation as one of the finest pickle makers In Garfield County. '"Aunt Fern " Henderson Slill Pickline At 83 CANNONVILLE -Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, but the peck of pickles he picked could not compare nor "hold a candle" to the pickles that Fern Henderson picks. Fern Hender"n, 83-years old, t-att holds the title of making the best pickles and sugar cookies in Cannonville. It would not be a good party without one of "Aunt Fern's" delicious dill pickles or a sugar cookie to round out the menu. She has been known for her delicious "goodies" for many years, and each summer she can be seen out in her garden picking special cucumbers for her pickles. Mrs. Henderson also holds the record in Cannonville for serving as a visiting teacher in the LDS Relief Society for 58 years. She still loves to visit the homes in the ward with her teaching companion, and offers compassionate service to those who are in need at all times. She married George Henderson in 1915 in the St. George LDS Temple, and he died in 1969 She has spent most of her life in Cannonville where she raised 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls, 10 of whom are still living. Her oldest daughter Margaret is now making her home with her mother in Cannonville, having recently moved from California She always takes pride in her beautiful flowers and bounteous gardens Young people loved to go to Aunt Fern's to have their parties. She enjoys visiting her friends and neighbors, or having them come to see her. "Aunt Fern" is truly a friend to all In Cannonville. |
