Kaibab Employees Continue Strike At Panguitch Mill The 125 employees at Kaibab Industries in Panguitch are striking for a dental program on their insurance plan. The Operators Engineers LofT imonN4r 5 sdys they" refuseto go to.work until the ' company agrees to meet with and discuss this matter. The gorup met Saturday evening to decide whether to go on the strike and all but six employees voted to strike. Monday, Bill Markus, business representative and Vance Abbott safety representative from the local union met with the employees. The group says they plan to stay on strike until the company agrees to go along with the dental plan or come up with a compromise that they all agree to. Kaibab Industries submitted the following to the Garfield County News: "We have valued the relationship between our company and our employees. A labor'.' spute ! and resulting strike is a regretful and unpleasant situation for all of us involved. "The strike was specifically called at the refusal of the company to add dental coverage to the present health plan. Our concern is that funding a dental plan would cripple the company's ability to fund future wage increases, and at the same time, stay competitive within the. hourly wage area. Kaibab Industries and the operating engineers are at the end of the second year of a three year labor contract. We feel that this contract provides for adequate compensation for the three years." |
