Show Former Garfield USU Agent Wins Honor A former county extension agent for Garfield and Kane Counties, Harold G. Lindsay, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. At the annual convention of the association, held recently in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was presented the award and praised for his outstanding work during his 19-year career with Utah State University in the Cooperative Extension Service, lie served two years as assistant agent in Salt Lake County, 13 years as extension agent in southern Utah's Garfield and Kane Counties before moving to Box Elder County as extension agent in that county in 1971. While in southern Utah Lindsay developed training programs that have been used statewide for training 4-H teen and adult leaders. As chairman of the Garfield County Economic Development Committee he initiated plans and programs for improving conditions in the county. At Brigham City he has initiated a cross-cultural 4-11 leader training program at In-termountain Indian School and Box Elder Hich School. .From the experience he was asked to serve as resource person in training of adult Indian leaders at the National 4-1 1 Training Center In Washington, D.C. Dr J. Clark Ballard, vice president for extension and continuing education at USU, recommended Lindsay for the award. He stated, "Mr. Lindsay is considered one of our top agents. He is very creative. In a very short time he gains complete support of the people in the area where he works tie is an excellent committee worker and always assumes his share and more of the responsibility." He noted that besides the work in thj counties Lindsay has performed a tremendously valuable service representing the field county extension workers on the state Extension Staff Training and Development Committee. This committee coordinates professional improvement in-service training for extension staff members in Utah. |
