Show UNUSUAL FISH CATCH A Kanab fisherman, Jerry Banks, made an unusual catch last week when he hooked a Rocky Mountain whitefish, a-bout a mile south of Hatch on the Sevier River using a worm at midday. Conservation Officer Norman McKee happened on the scene at the time the fish was caught and measured the 18-inch long fish and estimated the weight at between 2 and 2i pounds, far above average for a whitefish from a stream. Commonly called herring, mountain whitefish are normally caught In mid-winter with very small grubs and flies. The Sevier River and Asay Creek are the only streams In Southern Utah with whitefish. These streams are open to year a-round fishing. |
