Show GOOD EFFORT HELPS GAIN RECOGNITION Last spring Den 2 Cub Scouts decided to landscape the elementary school grounds at Escalante as a special community project Mr. Hal Shurtz, principal, and Mr. Stanley Haycock, janitor gave support and enthusiasm to the extent which made it possible for the scouts and school to win first place in a state-wide landscape contest. Every Christmas these two men set up a lighted nativity scene. It is so lovely to drive by to see. They make countless trips to unlock the school for public meetings of all sorts, and then have to come back and lock up again after the meeting. It would be much easier to just say "Find another building to meet in." When you see dedicated people like this in our schools, you can feel good a-bout the taxes you pay. Because of Mr. Shurtz and Mr. Haycock, "Better Schools Do Make Better Communities". |
