Show THE SAGE GROUSE ARE STRUTTING Spring work is In full swing by Fish and Game field personnel. One Important spring activity is to count sago grouse., on their' breeding grounds. These areas are called strutting or booming grounds because of the characteristic strutting and booming of the males. The birds gather yearly on the same strutting grounds at dawn for about two hours each day. Only the conspicuous males are counted. Thirteen strutting grounds have been located in Garfield County. These are all in the western portion of the county in the better sage brush areas. The counts indicate the yearly trend In spring breeding populations. Strutting continues into early May. |
