The theme of this year's wildlife week asks the question, wildlife who needs it? The soontr Americans Icnqw the answer to this important question which is, "we all do" the better our lives will become. Supervisor Alvin F. Wright made note of the importance of the Dixie National Forest lands as prime wildlife habitat this week by stating, "somo form of wildlife inhabits every one of the nearly two million acres of land la the Dixie National Forest." Wright contin-ued, "the job to provide suitable habitat for wildlife is an ever increasing challange because of accelerating demands for the resources the land produces." The Dixie National Forest is striving to protect and Improve wildlife habitat. Probably the most significant habitat Improvement program being done on the Dixie National Forest Is the large scale residing projects. In 1970 neatly 6,000 acres of land were,, re-seeded with Uie help of the U-ten Division of Fish and Game. These reseedlngs provide a large amount of forage for deer, small game and birds. Hie fact that opportunities to Improve wildlife habitat In Southern Utah exist is very heartening, especially in light of tho many areas where pollution and the use of land for other purposes Is destroying the wildlife habitat. |
