Show CREDIT CARDS AND PAYMENT OF TAXES Roland V. Wise, District Di-rectr, Utah Internal Revenue Service, stated the IRS has not entered into any arrangements with banks or others for the payment of taxes by credit card or through any other credit means. The IRS said it will not accept credit cards and that any credit arrangement for the payment of Federal taxes is strictlv between the taxpayer and his bank or other credit company. On the other hand, if a check or other document Issued by a bank or credit company and used by a taxpayer in payment of taxes is acceptable by the Federal Reserve District concerned, as a negotiable instrument for banking purposes, it will be accepted by the IRS. The IRS said however, that if a check or similar instrument is not honored by the bank on which It is drawn, the taxpaver may be subject to penalties. The tax laws provide a penalty of one percent of the amount of any dishonored check and a minimum penalty of $5. This is in addition to other penalties and interest for nonpayment of taxes |
