Show SUGAR FACTORY COMPLETES e RECORD RUN at 14 0 yesterday morning the brigham sugar factory cut the last beet ot of the 1921 crop and the beet cutting end ot of the big mill ceased operations erat ions until the next campaign is ready the balance ot of the mill will continue operating until thursday or I 1 friday alday in order to take care of 0 the juice slow now in the vats nud mid tanks and convert it into sugar when that is accomplished the great majority ot of tile the men employed N ill be released md and only enough men will be retained on the pay roll to do the cleaning up work to make the factory ready tor for the next nest campaign during the present season the local factory has performed in a notable manner and incidentally has hung up a number ot of records which even tile the largest factories in the alio utah idalio idaho system have not been able to achieve as yet this result has been attained by reason ot of the intensive operation cooperation co which has actuated all the workmen from the superintendent down to the least and last man on the job every man has endeavored to make his station more efficient than it ever was before and in consequence there have been no serious breakdowns no accidents and nothing of a serious nature to hamper the work and thus interfere with the pace which was set at the very outset ot of the campaign the factory has handled approximately tons ot of beets this year which Ts is about tons less than last year of the total amount about 75 poi percent cent were produced in this factory district and the balance were shipped lied from the garland factory despite the fact that a less tonnage of beets was handled at the factory the sugar production has exceeded that of last year by over bags this is due to the fact that the beets this vear contained contained a higher percentage of 0 saccharine than thaia last year cheaver dver age for the season being 17 per cent which is considered exceptionally good the beets were smaller this year and the continued dry weather at tile the end ot of the growing season is largely responsible tor for the high sugar content thattie Th atthe mill has performed wonderfully wilf will eastly easily be appreciated when it is remembered that the original design fixed the fhe capacity baill of the factory at tons of beets per day during the past season the mill has leveraged eve raged tons ar per day and tor for a thirty day period without a break it consumed on an average average of tons of 0 beets per day the record tor for one days grind was 1015 tons ot of beets and the record sugar production for one day was 30 75 bags this high standard ot of efficiency la in cutting beets has saved on the coal supply so that the mill closes the campaign with a record for coal consumption also last year the furnaces ate up approximately tons of coal this year they have been satisfied with about tons thus saving to the company approximately tons ot of coal tor for next axt years campaign the coal consumption as compared to the sugar manufactured has been about 75 percent on sugar which la Is a record that no other factory in the system BY has been able to achieve ali the sugar outa output ut total about bags this year as aa against bags last year approximately baab oj of this thia years product has been shipped out in order to make room lor for the balance and the big ware house Is now fairly bulging with its precious store of sugar which completely fills the room the mill has done as well as aa it possibly could in the extraction acel ot of sugar and in conse consequence que the molasses tanks have not received amounts anymore any more than the regulation amount of that material which will either be I 1 sold for stock food or shipped to garland to be put thru the process whereby the sugar is extracted the pulp supply has amounted to about tons this year when the campaign began there was a considerable supply of 0 last years pulp in the silo but that has all been used up and the great silo la Is now full ot of this years tresh fresh pulp it is estimated that everything will be cleaned up before spring however because ot of the many stockmen stoc kmen who have brought their cattle to this section to teed feed them much pulp Is also shipped to various parts of the county and state so that the I 1 supply will be entirely disposed of 0 before next campaign the company has paid out for beets to the farmers of 0 this district approximately tills this year added to that another approximately has been paid out in ill salaries during 1 the entire year so that ill the sug sugar mr f industry has indeed jeen been the great backbone ot of all commercial lite life i in n t this his part ot of the state the mill began operations on oil the esth day of october under the twelve hour shift plan at the end of thirty I 1 I 1 days the workmen voted almost to a man for tile the return of the eight hour shift despite the tact fact that that change meant less money for each man it also meant employment for tor about fifty more men and the change was made there have been no labor disagreements but on the other hand superintendent pearson pays the men the high compliment of being the best crew ot of workmen he has ever been associated with that the workmen in turn appreciate pre preci clate ate the attitude ot of the superintendent was fully demonstrated early sunday morning when the shifts were changing when the men gave supt bupt pearson and master mechanic hart a little surprise by presenting each a handsome solid gold signet ring engraved with their initials the brigham sugar factory la Is in splendid hands supt bupt pearson is n man whom every one loves he Is constantly on oil the job and knows his business from A to Z hiss genial disposition makes it possible for or him to offer sug suggestions gest ions and criticisms in a way that does not give offense but ut makes the workmen desire all the more to do the job right this same spirit characterizes all the other officials and that it has infected the entire to force ace if 19 amply attested by the remarkable records enumerated above everybody I 1 regrets that the factory could not continue in operation tor for another two months in order that the needed em cm might ile be supplied but ye there Is a certain feeling of 0 joy tha I 1 the strain is over tor for another year aidi an that the campaign was conducted so successfully |
