Relatives here got word thst Bill Hsws is still ailing, he was to go to Portland for examination by a Specialist and if he agreed with the other doctor that surgery is the solution he would undergo it on May 7th. Elda Haws is all bruised up from falling on the cupboard while cleaning her mother's house, the stool she was standing on slipped. Ray and LeNo-ra Griffin try to help each other but neither one is able to. Their son Pole and wife Marjle crme from Las Vegas to see them. Several folks had birthday anniversaries: Allie Spencer is US years young, she Is the oldest citizen In town while Mrs. Barker is away Her daughters Veda Mitchell. Verda Uston. and Nelda Spencer and her ReUef Society teachers. Sartah Alvey and Golds Cot tarn met at her horn to wish her many happy returns, they visited and had lunch. Sartah Alvey parted aunth-r milestone but sue is Just a kid, only 70. Her family members who live here snd a grand daughter Fr ankle Freeman, her husband Ronnie and their son Kenneth cam from Tona-pah, Nevada for the weekend, got together for the evening. Eph Coombs also had an annl- versary, he had visits from Uvonn and Elaine Roundy and family and Anthony Coombs of Boulder, Kay and Merle Coombs and three boys of Venice. Rol and Mlna Porter had daughter Velma, her husband WUUard Boulter from Calif, her for a weekend. The Griffin Frost shop is open and people swarming around it like bees around a honey pot. The wild summer night life has started; the irrigation water is on turns now with Vin Spencer as Water Boas. He Inherited all of the old headaches endured by Vic Cottam for several summers and has a few new ones added. John and Lola Zenz are back home after a ten day visit In Reno, Nevada with family members. Bill and Don and families live in that an then Lola's brother. Fred Rhodes and his wife Lois and soma of the sisters came from Calif, to visit with them. Bill's wife Ar-lene has won some more bowling honors. The Zens started having visitors as soon as they got horn; Bob and Barbara Ingram who used to live In Boulder and now reside at Ri-verton, Wyoming, had been to New Mexico for an art exhibit, ahe took a large number of her pictures to display. They came Ihla way and put on a display for two of the High School classes. They took some book-ends and ether things irom the Zenz Rock shop to display at Roxburg. Idaho and In their own studio In Rlvbrton. Another visitor who stayed two daya was Vera Van Blear from I s Angeles, Calif. He snd Don Shurtx contracted the shingling of Gertrude's cafe in Boulder, Don got by mighty lucky the first day without hitting his sore finger once, but it Is longer than the others. Wade Barney has two of his mashed. Iris Porter has her sister Le-da Emery here from Salt Lake City, Guy and Twila Lemming are getting settled on the lot they got from Usher Spencer. Shlrlee Spencer and Betty Alvey spent three days of last week In Panguitch; Shlrlee had a checkup and their eons. Marion and Steve had ear fever something fierce. Of course mothers had to look, test drive and that sort of thing. Each boy wound up with a car of the small variety (tome day I am going to learn about cars) Harvey, Evadean and Beth List on went to Cedar City to get Lola Rae. Delane Griffin and family are here working on their lot, they came by Pro-vo and brought Marlene along Earl and NetheUa Woolsey visited their way to Salt Lake City where they stayed with her sister Onetta K Shurtz, then visited other family members from there. Leone Haycock went to Richfield to see about a new tractor, others we heard of having business there were Vic and EuzeU Cottam, Ardis Christensen. Carolyn Williams, and Ruth Lay. CleUa Woolsey has moved home and son Danny was here for the weekend. Cells visited daughter Judy Ludgate and family in Wyoming and she says all the kids from here are close enough to visit. There's Joy and Danny Reid, Eldon and Amber Griffin, Gloria and LaMar Grade. Vergene and Caroline Porter made it home ok with the bus. They left home Thursday, made the trip by Jet and were started home with the bus on Friday, It took them three days to come home. They had a thrill over Chicago, were supposed to land but the weather was too rough so circled around until nearly out of fuel and had to land at Molene, but all In all It was a good trip. The Junior Prom was held Friday night with decorations, a good crowd, quite large too, and an orchestra Imported from Cedar City called the Cllx. Minnie Davis went to Tropic and got Leda Mae Foster and went to Cedar City Others having business there were the Spencers, Larue, Ronald and Kathy, and Janeen Alvey. Julie Shurtx went back with Vlckl and Kim Nelson who were home for the weekend. Smith Alvey was home from his Job in the Mam Street of Cedar City. Dick and Dor-ene Schow visited at the Em-mett Porter home. Hilo and Lottie Boyce had daughter Cheryl and family from Plains City. The fourth annual UIAA Lapidary Field trip was held here April 25. 26, 27. The field trip is held to locate and collect valuable raw materials which may be used In industrial arts laboratories for lapidary work. It was interesting and exciting, as well as educational. Mr. Rex Lawrence, Industrial arts teacher here, and Mr. Edson Alvey, a life-long resident of Escalante, a real outdoorsman and explorer, who has a unique collection of rocks, Indian artifacts and historical items, were leaders of this year's field trip. Edson took his group in the area of the reservoir and Rex guided a tour of the Bailey wash. A-bout fifty people took part in this activity, and seemed to enjoy it Immensely. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the program in the South ward was put on by the Prim ary; the North ward speakers were Randy Griffin. Kay Lynn Shurtz, Lane Stowe, and Greg Christensen. This daylight saving time is rough we rise at early dawn and drag our tracks complete ly out before the daylight's gone. |
